RADIO NAME CONTEST PAGE 2 MEET THE LANCERS PAGE 3 Vol. 8, no. 5 Grace College, Winona Lake, Ind. Nov. 18, 1960 FIVE SENIORS NAMED IN WHO'S WHO Seniors Ruth Clingenpeel, Sylvia Fink, Janet Hammers, Bill Schaffer and Jerry Young have been selected to appear in the 1960-61 edition of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, Honored because of their four-year record of activities and scholarship (a "B" average is required), these individuals will each have a write-up in the publication of the organization. The five will receive certificates and pins from the national honor organization; all will be recognized for the achievement at the 1961 graduation service. Ruth Clingenpeel, from Roanoke, Virginia, makes this her fourth year as a member of the "Messengers of Grace" and the college choir; she is a participant in the school play. During her sophomore and junior years, Ruth was a varsity cheerleader. She was also class social chairman and a dormitory prayer captain in her junior year. She currently serves as president of the women's dorm and is an assistant to the dean of women; Ruth is a senior class representative on the Student Council. Sylvia Fink came to Grace from Kittanning, Pa., and has been active on the campus in Christian Service and WRA, among other fields. Serving for her third year in Chi Id Evangelism, Sylvia makes this her second year as a Christian Service group leader, dorm prayer captain and secretary of WRA. She has sung in the mixed chorus, women's glee club and a musical team, and this year is a member of the college choir. She will also participate in this year's school play. Janet Hammers coming from Fremont, Ohio, has been active in musical teams while at Grace and is currently a member of the "Messengers of Grace" and the college choir. She is also a talented pianist and organist. For the past two years, she has served as a prayer captain in the women's dorm and is an assistant to the dean of women for the current year. In addition she has worked as a staff member of the Sounding Board. In her junior year, Janet served as secretary of her class. Dormitory Senate president Bill Schaffer, from Kittanning, Pa., has been active in student (see who's who, p.2) WHO'S WHO STUDENTS. L. to r.. Council Senate Plan Dinner, Service for Thanksgiving The College Student Council and the Dormitory Senate will climax the Thanksgiving Day festivities with a turkey banquet in the Westminster Hotel Rainbow Room at 5:30, and a 7:30 thanksgiving and praise service in the lower auditorium of the seminary building. The activities will begin at 8 a.m. with a praise and testimony breakfast. At noon a light lunch will be served. At 2p.m. the Yankees and Rebels will revive their "unfinished business," battling either on the gridiron or hardwood, depending on prevailing weather conditions. Last year the South edged the North, 44-43, on the basketball court. Relatives and guests are invited for the events. Lancers Make Seasons Debut Tomorrow Night The 1960-61 Grace Lancer varsity basketball team will begin a28 game schedule tomorrow evening at 8:00 p.m. against Giffin College, Van Wert, Ohio. Four new faces may appear in the Lancer starting lineup in this home game. Probable starters include guards Carrot Denton and EloyPacheco, center Lavon Harmon, and forwards Glen Kammerer and returnee Toby Kidder. Harmon is a junior transfer student, Kidder a senior, and the other three are freshmen. Larry Heisler, a freshman, is on the injured list and probably will not see action in the first game. Others on the squad are sophomores Dave Gilbert, Jerre Lelle and Max Bolinger; and juniors Larry Bibler, Doug Custer and Knute Larson. Tourney Next Week After a game with Bethel College there next Tuesday, the Lancers will host an invitational tourney on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26. Other schools in the tourney are Concordia, Rio Grande and Cedarville.
