Photographs and papers (1883-1938) of Hoosier progressive-era reformers Monroe Vayhinger and Culla Johnson Vayhinger. Monroe Vayhinger (1855-1938) was president of Moores Hill College (now Evansville University) and Taylor University (1908-1921), and was an evangelist in the Methodist-Holiness tradition. Culla Johnson Vayhinger (1867-1924) was President of the Indiana Woman's Christian Temperance Union (1903-1920) and lectured widely throughout the U.S. in support of the 18th (Prohibition) Amendment. A larger proportion of the papers are Monroe's. The collection is comprised of the following types of materials: Family portraits and photographs; Genealogical and Biographical materials; Documents (including Temperance, educational, and ministry-related papers, correspondence and speeches); Sermon notes and manuscripts; Tracts; Personal papers (including personal correspondence, family and financial papers); Ephemera. The collection was donated in 2005 to Taylor University by John Monroe Vayhinger (1916-2006), the grandson of Monroe and Culla Vayhinger.
