It will always keep my footsteps In the light and narrow way, If in trust I read its contents IN always watch and pray. As I walk the narrow pathway That will lead to endless rest, In the arms of my Redeemer, With my head upon his breast, I cannot- enough be thankful For the love he showed to me, When he took my sins of crimson, Evermore to set me free From the thoughts of condemnation, Pride and all formality; And for selfish exaltation He has giv'n humility. Blessed Bible! what a comfort Its dear pages show to me! It has taught the way to heaven, And a blest eternity. When old Time gives up his ages, And the earth shall be no more; With our loved ones we shall gather, Over on the other shore, Where all sorrow will be ended, Where all weeping will have ceased, Where our Savior will have for us Homes of love and joy and peace. — Maggie Woody. Prayer. 6 UT the end of all things is at cJ hand: be ye therefore sober and watch unto prayer."-- i Peter 4: 7. " Be you, therefore, of a sober mind and be attentive to prayer."— Emphatic Diaglott. Dear ones, we are here admon-ished to be- watchful and prayerful. Peter knew of the trials which were coming upon us, and therefore he says in this text that when trials come we may be watching for them in prayer. How often shall we pray? Ans. " Men ought always to pray and not to faint."— Luke 18: 1. Watch ye, therefore, and pray always."— Luke 21: 36. " Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus con-cerning, you."--- d Thess. 5: 17, IS. Now we find here it is the will of God that we" pray without ceasing." So if we wish to do the will of God we must be continually in meditation with our hearts open to God. How shall we pray? Read Rom. 8: 26, also T Cor. 14: 14. Paul tells us here that we are not to pray a prayer that we have heard some one else pray, neither write off or commit to memory some learned prayer, but to pray as the Spirit gives us utterance. Just simply let our hearts open to God and he will give us words which will come in just where they belong. What shall we pray for? Ans. " Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation."— M att. 26 : 41. When we are tempted and tried we are to continually look to God and he will keep us from entering into the same. Praise God! Again in James 5: 15, 16 we are to pray for healing of sickness; Eph. 6: 18, for others; Rom. lo: 1- 3, for sin-ners; Matt. 5: 44, for our enemies. We will give a few promises. " The Lord is far from the wicked; but he heareth the prayer of the righteous."— Prow. 15: 29, It gives power. Read Matt. 7: r 4- 21. After the disciples could not accomplish the work in this case, Jesus tells them that by prayer and fasting only Will such cases be delivered. " And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. if ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it."— John 14: 13, 14. " But I know that even now whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee."— John 11: 22. Matt. 28: 18 - 20. Christ is our only lawgiver. Jas. 4: 12. And his church makes no laws, but accepts those which he and his apostles have already given by which to be governed. I do praise God that he gave us the true light as to what his church is, and led us out of sectarian bond-age, where we could be " free indeed." Husband and I came out of the M. E. Church South more than a year and a. half ago. It was, no hasty step with us. We were bound and fettered by those in authority, and we saw the awful backslidden state of the Methodist sect ( and all the rest as well) , and we began to pray over it and ask the Lord about it, and seek light from his word. Oar souls were longing for gospel liberty and we often asked ourselves the question, " What shall we do?" To hold our relationship with such a church ( so- called) would be partak-ing of her sins, and being unequally yoked together with unbelievers, which we are commanded not to do. 2 Cor. 6: 14. ( That there are un-believers in the Methodist church no one can deny, and some of them holding high official positions.) And then we could not conscien-tiously keep the vow to support her; take God's money and give it to help fight God's truth and his blood-washed children with, and to be spent for cigars, tobacco, jewelry, silk hats, feathers, and other orna-ments, all of which God's word con-demns. Then, we did not feel at home in such a worldly church; we could not felIowsh: p with them, " for what fellowship hath righteou mess with unrighteousness?" We loved God: they were " lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God," had " the form of godliness but, denied the pow-er." DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: I do praise the dear Lord for full salvation of - soul and body. I cannot praise him enough when I think what he has done for me. I was afflicted from my infancy with scrofula and for eight years with female troubles. We spent most of our living for medicine, but to no effect. And so it would now. Satan is marshaling his hosts by the twenty- thousands, and to meet and overcome these it will require on the part of every servant of Jesus Christ, and - especially every minister, the best warfare that human endurance and divine leadership can consum-mate. We shall see by the New Testa-ment some of the enemies, or some of the different devices and methods efnployed by the enemy of souls, which Must be resisted, fought a-gainst, and withstood. Thank God, we are not ignorant of his devices. " Be sober, be vi gilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roar-ing lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom RESIST steadfast in the faith." " The devil is come down unto you, having great wrath." " Put on the. whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles - of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, agains . powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spirit-ual wickedness in high places." " For such are false apostles, de-ceitful workers, transforming them-selves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light," " And many shall follow their per-nicious- ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchan-dise of , you.". Seeing therefore that the servants requires singleness of heart, firmness of purpose, an unyielding warfare, to walk therein. The New Testament is one of the following reasons, if is not an idle tale. Therefore its such is the case: 1st, The prayer is exhortations and doctrines are not offered in merely form. in gtaad of faith. 2d, If prayer is offered in faith, then some one does not do his duty and take the pulpit, hence giving a chance for some one out of God's order to take it. Brethren, in the name of Jesus let us keep out of the rut of formal prayer. If we can-not believe when we pray, we might as well stop praying. Alter - we ask God to conduct a meeting in his own way, let us not say that the devil had charge of it; but instead let us rebuke the devil in the name of Jesus, and believe that God holds in War a Good Warfare. certain. Which I believe will be soon; for from the signs of the times we are in the " last days;" " perilous times" are upon us. .2 Tim. 3: 1- 6. We have not many Timothys in these days, but there are so many preach-ers who have " itching ears" ( 2 Tim. 4: 2-- 5), and the majority of profess-ors of religion won't endure " sound doctrine," and " turn away their ears from the truth." This is one of the signs of the times spoken of in 2 Tim. 3: 1. I do praise God that the gates of hell have never prevailed against the church of Christ and never will. He has always had a " peculiar people," and always will have; and he is gathering together and calling out his own peculiar peo-ple, and the bride is making herself ready. God wants his people to be a free people, he don't want them bound by sectarian bands and sect leaders who take away all liberty of conscience. It wasn't so in Paul's day. 2 Cor. 16: 12. Christ is to be " head- over all things," not: a bishop ( Eph. 1: 21- 23), and we are to go where HE says go and teach what he 6: 17. Also in Rev. 18: 4—" ComE OUT from her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and receive not of her plagues." When we heard God's voice calling us out, we obeyed that voice. We knew what it would cost along the line of per-secution, but we were glad to bear it for Jesus and the truth's sake. God's word did not say, If ye be re-proached as a Methodist " happy are ye;" but, " If ye ba reproached for the NAME OF Cuti- esr, happy are ye." Pet. 4.: 14. I thought I was living all right, but when God sent his true ministers to preach the truth and show me the evil of sectism I came out and am trusting the Lord for all things. I have got a great deal of light from tracts and the Trumpets that people have handed to me. I wish I was able to get some of your books and the Trumpet. We need some one to preach the gospel here. Paul, who in nakedness, hunger, thirst, cold, perils and dangers without number, went everywhere preaching the gospel. God is calling for more consecrated workers, consecrated to the full extent of the meaning of that word - more zeal for the work, more bur-den for lost souls. The time is coming when one sermon a day, one or two prayers a day will not suffice. But whole days of house- to- house visits, reading the Word, praying and singing; whole nights wrestling with God in prayer for power, wisdom, and the real Christ humility. Then, brethren, you will see the work move forward, souls be saved, the signs follow those that believe, thereby God be glorified, his work be finished, and his coming not be delayed. Often some one of God's children has been praying for a meeting in a new place; a call goes out for some Holy Ghost preacher, and for God to open the hearts of the people to receive the truth. But no one responds to the call. The people are hungry for the truth, and because they do not get the truth the enemy sees his opportunity and sends one of his popular ministers to feed the people on his husks and swill- has a so- called " great revival." Souls are deceived, captives are taken for Babylon, and souls that might have been saved are lost. Beloved, this ought not to be so. When a place is opened for a meet-ing, nine times in ten, God does it, and if he does it, he will also bless the work in saving souls. In many ways the work would spread. The Trumpet would find its way into new, homes, bringing light, joy, and peace untold. " Work while it is day," and while opportunities are before you; for the night comes when no man can work. We also find in James 3: 17 that the wisdom which is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, etc. Now you see that leaves out any foundation for harshness or impatience. How often when you speak to some that are out in the work, and claiming to be out straight for God, that we should be gentle with souls in darkness, they will reply, It needs to be strong"; and so it does, but let us see that it is the word of God that must do the fanning, and that our words are seasoned with grace, and tempered with the real gentleness and meek-sung, thus hidnerie testimony for the, Lori Oh that more wou g wt ht. spirit! DEAR TICUNIPE• READERS: From Shelby, tab ernacle Mich. le I went meeting Charlevoix; helda few days with fair success in the salvation of a few souls and healing of bodies. On my way met Bro. Win. E. Warren at Thompsonville, who was with us at Charlevoix, Bliss, and Dwight camp meetings. The meeting at Bliss was a success; a number of souls and bodies were healed. There is a very precious church established at that place; may the Lord reward them for their kindness and financial help to us. The Dwight meeting was more than a success; many were sav-ed, some sanctified, and same healed, and thirteen baptized. We had a very precious ordinance- meeting at the close of the meeting, Sunday eve, the gth. Just as we were singing the hymn after communion, people be-gan to come to the altar for salva-tion and did not stop until seventeen came for salvation. Praise the Lord I News from the held. s be done 14: 40. says there is a time for all things. Eccl. 3: I, 7. RVATIt1N has taught me the great need of an advance-ment on the part of God's saints in hymning his praise. We are Aoki in - God's word to let ail ti decently and in order. Ecclesiastes, or the Preacl EARLY beloved in the Lord, in reading the Gospel Trumpet week after week I see calls for meet-ings. Some that have appeared months ago. But still no one has responded to the call. Again, in looking over the list of meetings advertised I see the greater number are in localities where there has been meeting after meeting. Now, brethren, why is this? I ask in the name of Jesus, Is it according to the command of Jesus: " Go ye nto all the world and preach the gospel to every creature? '- NIark 16: 15. While I know full well that the `' harvest is great and the laborers are few," would it not be self- sac-rificing on the part of those that have had one or more meetings each year to deny themselves and let the evangelists go to other places where the evening light has never yet been preached. But says one, " If we bear the expenses of a meeting or two each year do you find fault with us?" Nay, God forbid that I should fault any one. But, dear one, do you ever think how those that are denied the privilege of assembling in prayer-meeting or testimony- meeting, long. yea hunger and thirst, for the com-pany of the saints, when they are through circumstances. or of God sent to livein a community where there are none of God's children- where all is darkness and sin? 0, do you not realize the longing they have for the company of the saints, and the salvation of precious eternity- bound souls? But some may say, " Yes, true, there are plenty of calls, but those desiring meetings do not say a word about the means to take us there." While this is often the case, because it is the poor of this. world that have, through all ages, been the ones to accept the gospel; would it not then be the duty of those that are able, to help send the preacher? You dear ones, who have the means to send the gospel to those who have not, would it, I ask, be a sorrow or joy to you, for only one poor soul to come to you in eternity and say, " It was through your instrumentality that I was saved?" 0 would it not be joy indeed? Time is fleeing away, eternity is looming in sight. Then why should we be so eager to hoard up the things of this world? Shall we heap up treasures to be burned at the last day? God is, some of these days, going to call for the proof of our consecrations in the way of our property, when it will not only be the giving of a few spare dollars, but of houses and lands. And now a word to the preacher. Do you, beloved, love to linger around the " old burned- over" place? Do you love the easy place, a place perhaps where you have labored in the past, have been the means in God's hand of raising up a church, where you have friends in abundance. and all your needs are supplied? 0 why do you still linger, when so many are crying for the bread of life? Oh why not launch out, gain new victories, new territory for Christ, wrest souls from the power of Satan? While it is true that the flock should be fed, will you not trust the Lord to raise up some one to feed the flock, while you that are called to evangelistic work will make " full proof of your ministry? 2 Tim. 4: 5. And while you are deny-ing yourselves of ease and comfort, WINSLOW, ARK. I believe that God wants me to tell what he has done for me. Praise his name! He saves, - sanctifies, and heals me just now. I had been doing all for him that I had the light to do, hitt I was not fully sanctified, Now I see more clearly what is my duty and privilege to do, and I am determined by the grace of God to do more for him who has done so much for me.. I Praise him that he healed me of deafness, that I hear so well again. It is wonderful how the Lord is working in this country. Many have been healed, many saved and sancti-fied, arid others have requested prayer. I am truly praising God for corn plete , deliverance of soul and body from all the snares of the evil o0ne . e- ar V111• 11111MIEMOSOMW OLIVET, MICH. DEAR BRETHREN: It is not according to what I deserve, but according to God's riches in glory that he has healed me soul and body. I am sweetly trusting my Savior for all, and I praise his dear name that he ever called me from the error of my way and placed me on the highway of holiness and gave me a clean heart to serve and live for him. After three years of the most intense suf-fering with sciatica in my back, left hip, and leg, until it had drawn my back all out of shape, and what the doctors called atrophy of the muscles had destroyed the usefulness and strength of nearly the entire left side; and I had spent all my money on medicine, in the end I heard them say that I could not be cured. I went to the Grand Junction C. M. There I placed my case into the hands of Him who fashioned our bodies, and I praise the name of Jesus he broke the bands of the dis-ease and I have not suffered any of the pain that used to keep me sitting in my chair, sometimes all night long, and my muscles are regaining strength every day. Dear ones, pray that I may continue to gain in physi-cal and spiritual strength. Yours in Christ, CHAS. WAGGONER. GENOA, 0. DEAR TRUMPET READERS: I write this for the glory of God. I had become backslidden in heart, but God's truth kept following me until a few weeks ago I returned to God, and he has restored to me the joys of salvation. Since I first heard the pure gospel, about four years ago, I have trusted God for the healing of my body and also for the healing of my little boy who is now over two years old and has had no physician but Jesus, who healed him of cholera infantum and rupture when he was about six months old. And two weeks ago Paul my little boy was suddenly taken with what some call a fit, but it answered the description given in Mark 9: 2o; SC) my sister ( into whose hands the care of Paul has been given since his mother's death, when he was but ten days old) and I took the contorted body in our lap and called mightily on God. We laid our hands on him and rebuked the devil in the name of Jesus and bid him depart, and he went. Glory to God in the highest! But the devil seemed to keep return-ing and taking hold of him, but we rebuked him in Jesus' name and he was defeated and we have the victory. Halelujah Paul had always been so hard to govern, but now there is a wonderful change. He is now so much more loving and easily con-trolled. And one thing mole I must add is that my sister Ella, who ha been in sectism for twenty- two years, is now delivered from bondage and is walking in the light of the pure gospel. There is a band of us here who love God's truth. But, oh, how the devil did rage when my sister left the Babylonian cage of hateful birds— Methodism. But his sheep hear his voice which says ( Re v. 18: 14) " Come out of her my people" and also ( 2 Cor. 6: 14) :" Be ye not unequal-ly yoked together with unbelievers." So are all who are in any of these; but all such are told, " Come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord." And all his sheep when they hear his voice saying these things must obey or lose their souls, for it they have not the love of the truth, which is God's word ( Jno. t7: 17.) , the Word says He will send them strong delusion that they should believe a lie; that they all might be damned who believed not the truth. We have our little but blessed meetings twice during thesweek and twice on Sunday. We pray God to send some of his anointed ones this way. Yours, in the one body, saved and kept by the power of God, ARTHUR L. AND ELLA. R. BOIES. PIERCE, NEB. DEAR SAINTS: I am praising God for the privilege of testfying to the saving grace of, God. Praise God for a present experience. / can say that ethe Lord saves and sanctifies me wholly. It has been nearly two years since I was converted to God and it has been the best part of my life. Satan has been raging and mustering ail his host to battle, but God gives his children power over all the powers of the enemy and his grace has been sufficient. I realize that I am making spiritual advancement. The Word tells us to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God has torn down every idol in my heart and is making the memory of them to perish. I was a member of a secret society at the time of my conversion but gave it up with all the other sins. How I realize the need of all the saints living true to God in these last days when perilous times have come and men are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. It is only by living true to God, and laying judgment to the line that we will cause people to see their condition, that they may make their escape. The Word says, " Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." It tells us to " be not de ceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoet er a man soweth that shall he also reap." " The Son of man shall send forth his angels and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity." " And he shall send his an-gels with a great sound of a trumpet and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." When the saints live true to God and the holy fire burns on the altars of their hearts " the sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with the ever-lasting burnings? He that walketh and speaketh uprightly." Dear saints, let us measure our lives by the word of God, that we may not be gathered out as offenders. God has planted a little church at this place By reading the Trumpet and searching the Scriptures we found that it taught a Bible doctrine and myself and wife were led out into the light. There are now six dear saints at this place. We would be glad to correspond with any Of the saints and should any of the saints be passing this way they would be gladly received by us. Last December I was most forcibly convicted that I was only a miserable sinner and that Methodism was not the . church, but truly a part of Babylon. My eyes had been seriously afflicted for nine years during which time they gradually grew worse although under treatment by the best oculists in western Pennsylvania. Some of my friends said I would go blind and the oculists said it was almost a hopeless case; but glory be to God, - when t came to him in Jesus' name according to John 15,7; 14: 14, he healed me. OR this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctifi-cation and honor."-- g Thess. 4: 3, 4. From the above we draw the set-tled opinion that sanctification is a scriptural doctrine, based wholly upon God's word, which effects an experience and character far above that received in justification. For this is understood to be given to be-lievers(' Thess. t: t. I Thess. 4: 1- 6.), and not to sinners. Therefore these Christians of Thessalonica were commanded to advance in this spirit-ual world. And he tells them, " For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus, ver. 2. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification." Now this is plain and emphatic, and I would say to all fighters of sanctification, Before you let Satan eradicate the truth ( Matt. 13: 19.) from your heart, consider this thoroughly. If you will, then there is no doubt but what you can. be able to compre-hend God's will concerning this. This is to be understood in a twofold light, which we will proceed to con-sider. First, as an inestimable gift of God. Now I am sure if all would consider it this way, they would soon be led out into the avenues of God's eter-nal truth, where they could see plain-ly the way of salvation and life. But instead of this, it is fought against on every side, and by some who do not really realize what they are do-ing. Some seem to consider it only a doctrine of man, and think it un-necessary to give it thought, being so deluded by false teachers. And there is a class who fight it because it requires too strict a life. The Lord help such as I have named to see themselves as God sees them. And may the scales fall from their eyes, that they may see " everything clearly." Then, we will say it is a gift from the hand of God. Yes, a gift, some-thing that GOD wants to impart unto you. Then you should place your mind upon God and his word about this. And if he has devised this experience, and written it in his Word, you should be humble enough to accept it with reverence. Every particle of the economy of grace is consistent with the highest of reason. God knew this to be a blessing to humanity; that with this experience they would be capable of standing against the trials that are to try the Christians, and enjoy that which He designed they should. Then, I can say that God cannot carry out his eternal purpose with you ( 2 Thess. 2: 13.) until you have embraced that which he purposed you to have. May God help all who are not sanctified to consider it a fundamental device of divine provi-dence, something He had ordained before this world began ( 2 Thess. 2: 13. Eph. I: 4. I Pet. 1: 2.), and has now made it known through Christ, the apostles, and his word. We as civilized people should seek that which would edify us; we should always seek that we may be pure, charitable, temperate, wise; and, more than this, we should increase more and more in these divine attri-butes. Do not be afraid of getting too good; for you cannot. But be wise and embrace that which will do trust in God. Where the children you good, that which will save from of God stand true to him, and true all the evils in this world, and con-to his word, friends and neighbors form you to the image you lost will be compelled to believe in the! through the fall; namely, holiness mighty healing and saving power of ( sanctification). the Lord Jesus Christ. I do not see why you should be so Dear ones, have you been doing antagonistic- to this. It surely is no your duty on this line; and, further-' harm for a man to get good. And if more, the money which you once fa man can be saved and cleansed from all sin; yea, find a deliverance from the propensities of man, and all elements foreign to the principles of divine love, would we not be wise in seeking to attain unto such a noble state? You will have to answer, Yes. God is absolutely made up of good. There is no sin in him, nor there never was. He is entirely divine. In Him is incorporated all the attri-butes of good. Hence he is the foun-tain head of all good. Jas." : 17. Sanctification is something that cleanseth a man from all sin ( t Thess. 5: 22- 24.) ; it eradicates from man impurities, and all other elements opposed to good, incorporating in man the divine nature ( 2 Pet.' : 4.) and making him one with God ( Jno. 17: 17- 22) and agreeable with all good; cleanses him with the precious blood ( Heb. 13: 12.) of Jesus, not & ay making him one with, but " one in God. in Christ."-- Jno. 17: 21 It im-parts in man the real vitality of good, making man competent to reign over sin, and manifest in his life ( i Pet. 2: 21- 23) as in Christ's, the divine principles of love. This is something that is goad; and of course it was concocted in the mind of God, and emanates directly from him. Hence it is a gift of God. Do you not want it? Cease fighting it at once, for you are not fighting man so strongly, but God who de-vised it. Thess. 4: 7, S. It is a good and perfect gift for it has proceeded directly from God. And " every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow o turning."— Jas. 1: 17. Amen. CHARLEY AKERS. Then I promised him I would tell the people what he had done for me and would do all for his cause I could. He then showed me that all I need-ed was faith, and I asked him to trengthen my faith. Then I claim-ed the promise and got up and walk-ed through the house praising God for what he had done. Pray for me. Your SISter, ALICE GUFFEY. MEADOW BROOK, ORE. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: This leaves me saved and kept by the power of God. 0 I do praise God for a salvation that keeps us from all sin, and from everything that is not of God. I am determined to serve him while I live. He has also healed me of heart disease and sanctified me. Praise his name! I am having some trouble with kidney disease. Pray for me that this disease may be rebuked in the name of the Lord J esus Christ. Last spring the Lord sent brother W. H. Green and wife and niece here to preach the true word of God. It made an impression on me ant= I saw I was in a lost condition. So I gave myself to God, and I was received. In about two months I was anointed by Brother Randolph and wife of Salem. I was sanctified and healed of heart trouble. Pray for my husband and family that they may be healed soul and body— one daughter of heart disease. She is out of the reach of medicine. See to it that ye render unto the Lord what is due unto him. 7 E have in the past been. mostly 1 setting forth divine healing as a privilege to the children of God, and we desire to not only set it forth in that light, but as a com-mand or duty enjoined upon the children of God. We read in the word of God that it is his will to heal the sick. Psa. to3: 3; and in James 5: 14,15 are the instructions given for them ' to follow. In other words, it is set forth as a command or duty, which was placed there for the purpose of having the children of God obey. When the Word says for a person to do so and so, it means that we ought to do it, and Jesussays, John 14: 2,3, '' If a man love me, he will keep my words." Now his words concerning healing, are that his children 1- vhen they are sick are to send for the elders of the church. This means in cases where their own prayers will not prevail with the Lord. According to the scripture just quoted from John, those. who love the Lord will obey his words, and in-stead of sending for a doctor send far the elders of the church, and instead of taking medicine take the Lord. Take his word and put it in practice. It will do more for you than all the doctors and medicines in existence. It is not trusting the Lord very much, nor giving him the honor, respect, nor prase due him to undertake to have his help in healing and also earthly physicians and medicines. You who are fear-ful that the Lord will not fulfill his word in case of sickness, let me ask you a question, Is it because you are afraid he if unable to fulfill his promises? if so, turn to Eph. 3: 2o. There we read that he is " able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." Now, shame on the one who would rather trust in the arm of flesh than in one who has the ability of God, and has given such wonderful promises. His promise is that the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. If you have not the needed faith ask of God, and he will give it you. It is your privilege to either be healed or to know the reason why you are not. Are you willing to consecrate yourself wholly to God where you can say, Lord, thy will, not mine be done?" To one who has not known the great promises of the Lord and his power to heal we can set forth the blessed privileges, but those who have been walking in the light, or hearing the truth preached in all its purity, should be ready to follow the Lord and consider it their duty to take God as their healer as well as their Savior from sin. If you have not been walking up to all of God's word on this line, begin now; honor God, believe his word, move out upon his promises, begin to thank him for what he has done in the past; thank him for light and truth, and the privileges that he has extended to his children, and he will not with-hold his great blessings from you. There are many of God's children so situated that doctors are sent for contrary to their wishes for some one of the family. But, dear ones, as for yourself you can have the privilege of taking God alone, and no one can keep you from praying for your family. even though some one else should send for an earthly physician. But when you learn to move out upon the promises of God with an unwavering faith it will soon work such wonders in your family as to win others to the way of truth and NICODEMUS, KAN. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: 1 feel like testifying to what the Lord has done for me. He saves and keeps me each day, and gives me sweet rest of soul. I take Jesus for my physician and find him a present help in every time of trouble. I have had a spell of fever this'summer; was very sick and thought I would write for the Trumpet family to pray for my heal-ing, but it seemed to me that I would not live for the letter to reach them. So I began to talk to the Lord and tell him all my troubles and he . DE SOTO, Mo. DEAR READERS OF THE TRUMPET; feel it would be to the glory of God to write my testimony. I. thought I was living a Christian life ( although the way seemed hard) till the dear Lord sent Bro. Collins and Co. and I soon found out that I had backslidden and had the spirit of fight instead of the Meek and patient spirit ' of my clear Redeemer. But the dear Father knew I was honest and I went to him with a truly repenting heart, and found him to be true, and; as the Word says, faithful and just to for-give us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Glory to his name, he gave me grace to meet all the demands that are required of those that have got out of the way. He took out of my heart all the bit-terness against those that were my enemies and to - day I am free; because the Bible says whomsoever.. the Son makes free is free indeed. Now I want the prayers of all God's little ones that I may be wholly sanctified and know my heavenly Father's will: concerning me. Your sister in Christ, t SUSAN 1.4IALLICoAT. Advancernon

On these conditions: " And what-soever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleas-ing in his sight. — Jo n 3: 22. of God ( and especially ministers) things soever ye desire, when ye have all these things to contend with, parnady , y eb elieve that ye receive them, as well as other forms of sin not 24. Then, we did not feel at home in such a worldly church; we could not felIowsh: p with them, " for what fellowship hath righteou mess with unrighteousness?" We loved God: they were " lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God" had " the form of godliness but, denied the pow-er." And so it would now. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" " And many shall follow their per-nicious- ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 4: 2-- 5), and the majority of profess-ors of religion won't endure " sound doctrine" and " turn away their ears from the truth." This is one of the signs of the times spoken of in 2 Tim. 3: 1. I do praise God that the gates of hell have never prevailed against the church of Christ and never will. He has always had a " peculiar people" and always will have; and he is gathering together and calling out his own peculiar peo-ple, and the bride is making herself ready. God wants his people to be a free people, he don't want them bound by sectarian bands and sect leaders who take away all liberty of conscience. It wasn't so in Paul's day. 2 Cor. 16: 12. Christ is to be " head- over all things" not: a bishop ( Eph. 4.: 14. We believe in bearing his name and NO OTHER Eph. 3: 4. i5 The bride always takes the name of the bridegroom. LIST OF MONEY LETTERS NU OTHERWISE RECE1NED A DAY OF FASTING AND PRAYER. As the brethren everywhere are interested in the spread of the gospel and are anxious to see the people in every land supplied with holy litera ture, some have suggested that the saints of God and those so interested spend September first in fasting and prayer for the needs of the Trumpet Office, that it may be supplied with the needed machinery, boiler, press, bookbinding outfit. etc., that the Gospel may be speedily sent forth to every part of the world. Now, who will set aside that day for special prayer and prevail upon the Lord to order a special forward move on this line? Ask the Lord what he would have you to do in helping to spread his gospel. s s tor Prayer. + 14 Camp meeting in Louisiana, thirteen miles east of Rarnmond, near Morris Re-treat. Beginning Oct. to. I realize more and more, as I look around at the poor lost souls, what a great responsibility rests upon the children of God, that we should strive as never before to gain this point. " Work while it is day" and while opportunities are before you; for the night comes when no man can work. Yea. do the work as you will wish you had when standing at the tribunal of God, and " reckon that ch suffz, trings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with glory that shall be revealed in "--- Rorn. 8: 18. for ,-, u1,;, orat ' rl` II t!!•• sin of . strife! Be- When we are at our daily labor. or in the Lord's field, do we really show forth all gentleness and patience with perishing souls? Or do we become impatient, and perhaps speak short and cross to them, just because they do not understand and see the light, as readily as we did. This is work for eternity, and to be gentle is our duty, as well as a command. 2 Tim. 2: 24. Titus 3: 2. Also Paul and his co- workers set the example. 2 Thess. 2: 7. We read in Prov. 1I: 30 that he that winneth souls is wise. While I know full well that the `' harvest is great and the laborers are few" would it not be self- sac-rificing on the part of those that have had one or more meetings each year to deny themselves and let the evangelists go to other places where the evening light has never yet been preached. Dear ones pray for us here that the good work may go on, that we may all be willing for God to use us as he wills. Your sister in Christ, MINNIE H. CALDWELL. _— PALOUSE, DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: I feel led to write my testimony for the first time. Many and various diseases and afflictions of from one to thirty years standing were removed by the power of God. Devils were also cast out. One dear soul was graciously delivered by the laying on of hands. ( Mark 16: I7). The miracle power of God was also manifest. One dear brother came on his bicycle between six and seven hundred miles to at-tend the meeting. Another brother from North Dakota was with us in this feast. There were about forty tents on the ground; eighteen or twenty saints were immersed; spiritual gifts were also sought and obtained. Much good in general was accomplished through the favor of God. About 120 happy saints took part in the ordi-nances of feet- washing and the holy communion. The true ministers and gospel workers went forth in differ-ent directions to labor for the Lord and to carry the everlasting gospel abroad. F. N. JACOBSON AND CO- WORKERS. ELK CITY, PA. DEAR COSPEL WORKERS: I feel it God's will that I should give in my testimony, which will do in Jesus' name trusting it will help some one. I was converted when about sixteen years old and, knowing no better, joined the M. E. sect, where I tried to live a Christian life, for about four-teen years. I can read night and day and any print, for which I give him all the glory. Pray for me that I may sink deeper into His will, and go On unto perfec-tion. Your brother in the one body, E. G. DELOE. BENTON, IND. DEAR SAINTS: I am praising God this morning for real victory in my soul. I find God always true to his promise " to keep him in peace whose mind is stayed on him." Although surround-ed by the spirits of sectism and delusion, and every evildwork, God is keeping me clear in my soul. Praise his name! I have realized during my short stay here, more than ever before, the necessity of being fortified against the enemy of our souls. Sectism is the worst spirit we have to contend with, and is a hiding- place for many other false and pernicious spirits. But, praise God, we may overcome them all by living in the spirit of God continually. I do know that he saves and sanctifies me wholly. I enjoy the peace of God which passeth all understanding. To him be all the glory. Your brother on the advance for God, A. SNIVELY. Testinon':, WILLSHIRE, OHIO. DEAR SAINTS: I do praise God for salvation and for the love and joy and peace I have in my soul this morning that tells me that I am a true child of God. I have something to praise the good Lord for. MILO GLUTEN. Mivine 4.< The Duty of the Children of God. spent for doctor bills, and is saved now because of the blessings of the Lord, do you spend the amount saved in spreading the gospel? Advancernon |
