I AM ON THE ROCK. Armageddon. conclude that we are safe while standing upon the truth of Omnipotence, outside of all man - constructed machinery. " We preach eternal redemption through the blood of Christ, and the univer-sality of his kingdom of grace. As the body of Christ must contain all of his members, anything that does notecontain every child of God is not his church— and it has no sisters. Cant. 6: 9. Nothing but God's people is ever in his word, in a single instance, denominated the church. " The church is visible. Matt 2 Cor. 3: 2. The kingdom' of grace is invisible. Luke 17: 20. Hence when inducted into the invisible element of love . by the remission of sins, we the church are visible, but the operator is invisible. Therefore the invisible operator uses the visible instrument, the church, to enlighten the world. Praise God for his church; we are not against it or any of its facilities; but against isms that divide God's people. ' Churches,' in the plural, spoken of in the Word has reference every time to local congregations of saved people in different geographical locations. Read i Cor. 16: 10; 2 Cor. 8: 18; CHAPTER VIII. WHAT WE CONTEND FOR AND AGAINST. T HE following is a reply published in defense of the truth at Wilton, Iowa. " Inasmuch as there has been an exhibition of the characteristics ever manifestly displayed on the part ' of carnality, in bringing forth fruit nourished ofttimes by ignorance of. divine principles, through disobedience to the laws of heaven and violation of the standard of eternal justice— God's word— whose infallible judgment must govern every theocratic soul, and being watered by the furrows of willful misrepresentation, is canvassed by tongue and pen, for the purpose of misguiding individuals who may not have been influenced against the truth by a more direct agency of darkness, and as the public is agitated by the desire to comprehend truth in reality, and not in mere form or fiction, we desire to see every thinking person take a stand on a correct premise and, being influenced by unselfish love, draw a right conclusion therefrom. " The truth that inspired the souls of men in the apostolic age and characterized the pristine Christians is the same we should imbibe, nourish, protect, and disseminate throughout the world by both precept and example. . II mr. and others of like passions, who seem to find in their vast resources of knowledge, the personification of the embodiment of all truth, try to attach to us as a people many appellations born of irony, such as ' Trumpeters', ' Holy Rollers', and a comparison to some obnoxious plant; as, burdock, butterprint, cockle burs, etc. For these things we praise God, and simply send a prayer to glory for the salvation of such of our fellow men as may be wrongly informed or rather who are not informed at all. " It is true we do not believe in sect ( dis) organizations that divide and disorganize God's people; but that God's church is an organized body we firm. ly believe. We maintain that the Son of God, and his apostles and their successors were supplied with all the religious facilities necessary to evangelize the world. We declare that all knowledge acquired in modern times should never change the legislation of God, nor the government of his church. . f the multiplicity of ecclesiastical institutions are indispensable for the purpose of Christianizing the world, we say that the church of God and her facilities were not perfect until all of these modern sects were brought to view; but if Christ organized his church and invested it with all things necessary, without the aid of these many schisms and there being no license for man to build a church, we Cor. 16: 1; Rom. 16: 4; Acts 15: 41. " Paul taught in every church ( congre-gation of the saved). r Cor. 4: 17. Do you suppose if Paul would come to Wilton and preach a sermon for the M. E's. or the Presbyterians, advocating sprinkling, that he would be received by the Baptists as a true teacher? I think not. If he would preach a sermon for the ' Christian Church,' so- called, to the effect that immersion in water is for the remission of sins, do you think the M. E's. would receive him? No. Then Paul could not preach in ' all churches' in Wilton, could he? Hence the ' all churches' in Wilton are vastly different from the ' all churches' of the apostolic age. Paul did not preach different doctrines to suit the ' all churches,' but always the same faith. Therefore the local assemblies all had one faith, and these local congregations of earth composed the universal body or church. But there were not different doctrines. There was but one church in each town. See , Acts 13: 1; I Cor. ; 2; I Thess. Philadelphia with her thousands o inhabitants, had but one church; • but Wilton with less than two thousand has about a dozen. " God himself takes members into his church ( Acts 2: 47; 1 Cor. 12: 18); the door is Christ ( Jno. to: 9); and no man can open or shut it ( Isa. 22: 22; Rev. 3: 7). Therefore anything man can open or shut is not the church of God. " Organization is what we are pleading for. Organization is where every member co- operates, one with another, aiming at one common end. Should the church aim only to get to heaven? No. She should be arrayed against all manner of sin and confusion. In a systematic form? Yes. The different parts of work must be carried on, but every facility is found within the One organization. " As sectism teaches we will illustrate, and denominate M. E. ism, Co. A; Campbellism, Co. B; Pt esbyterianism, Co. C; Baptistism, Co. D. When the archfiend sends his hosts to capture the souls of our loved ones in the thraldom of sin, the bugle is sounded from yonder throne, ` 1.3p, to arms 1 the enemy is in camp.' Co. A arises in the darkness of sectish night, and starts against the enemy. I hear the clashing of swords; Co. A has found the foe and is in deadly conflict. But ah, my heart sinks when I behold the sword of Co. A struck to the heart of Co. B. They are the enemies that have met. Just so with Co. C and Co. D. While they fight each other the Devil gropes for the vitals of our race HE people which sat in dark-murder is increasing, asylums growing, ness saw great light; and to prisons overflowing, prostitution Cursing them which sat in the region and the earth, disease devouring the body, shadow of death light is sprung up. and a great devastation in general. If From that time Jesus began to half the time that is spent in church ' preach, and to say Repent; for the ' the Savior. But he used love, says one. Yes that is true. His love is the greatest ever known. And after the sweet, melting invitation (" Come unto me, " etc.) , his love was so intense that he failed not to faithfully warn ( notify of danger) them of their awful fate, providing they did not repent and prepare to meet God. " And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galii2cans were sinners above all the Galikeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay; but, except ye repent, YE SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH."— Luke 13: 2, 3. And again he repeats this emphatic warning in the fifth verse: - I tell you, Nay; but EXCkPr YE REPENT, YE SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH." So we see Jesus WARNED ill love, as well as to extend an invitation in love. Some, though- not meaning to dis-annul God's warnings, believe that the proper manner in which to get people saved, is to avoid warning them of their awful destiny, but tell them of the great love of Jesus, who died to save them, While men must serve God through love, it may not be the starting- point with all. Again, while godly sorrow worketh repentance, do not the warnings of God's word faithfully preached often yield the said godly sorrow? I trow it does. What then? shall we cease to make known the wondrous low of him who shed his own life's blood for our redemption? No, No! Let this great love be magnified. But let us, like Jesus, not fail to give the warning also ( in love), and thereby clear ourselves, by preaching the whole Word. Now let us hear Paul on this point. " And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now, command-eth all men everywhere to repent." - Acts 7: 3o. Why, Paul? " Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man [ Christ] whom he hath ordained."— Vcr. 31. " Who will render to every man according to his deeds: to them who by patient continuance in well- doing seek for glory and honor r from God]• and immortality, eternal life; but unto them that are contentious, and obey not the truth, but obey unright-eousness, indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile."— Rom. 2: 6- 9, Again, says the apostle, Jesus is coming " in flaming fire taking venge-ance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be pun-ished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power."- 2 Thess. I: 8, n. We, also, must warn the people. To tell of the love of Jesus, is proper. and right; but to withhold the awful warnings of God's word from the people, would be very wrong. In conclusion, we will notice how God, through the mouth of the prophet, speaks concerning the watchman ( minister) who fails to warn the wicked of his dangerous position. " When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet, if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his they now seem to be resting, at par- wickedness, nor from his wicked feet ease. way, he shall die in his iniquity; but What shall the warning be? I thou hast delivered thy soul." rn. Ake lay first appeal to the WOrciS A J ELLISON sprees, frolics, grab- bags, picnics, foot and toe festivals, pillow- slip socials, box suppers, raffles, etc., etc., were spent to destroy sin in men's hearts, there would be a grand reformation brought to view. If all professors would rally around Christ, the sole life and center of all spiritual vitality, instead of some modern sectish invention, you would see a love manifest among the ecclesiastical world that is now a stranger. " The truth makes one ( Heb. 2: II), even as the Father and Son. See Ino. 17: 11. We are not based upon dogmatic principles. We demand proof. Every reformation established in the hearts of men founded upon the eternal principles of right, has ever demanded a freedom from the slavish chains and thraldom of sectish reign. The holy influence of God's Spirit inculcates holiness within the soul; takes away every band from the mind, every prejudice from the heart; and sends forth the proclamation of righteous-nest in defense of the law of love and vindication of justice, sanctification of the human heart, to the utter annihilation of every moral disease, and the elevation of moral principles. " When one has embraced the economy of grace outside of all ecclesiastical machinery, the conception of God's goodness, the purity of his church, and the universality of his kingdom, the knowledge of his salvation binds us by the bond of love so close to the source of our joys that the burden of our souls is to see thehighest manifestation of God's pow-er in a united church, and to decry every discordant element. We - acknowledge allegiance to nothing but the matchless ideal– CHRIST— from whom we may draw every characteristic that should mark the Christian life. " Man, possessed of a ' spiritual and eternal Principle, coming in contact with the laws of divine justice, finds himself standing between two eternities. From one streams the light of immortal glory, actuating upon the better judgment and intelligent faculties of humanity, declaring the heavenly environments and attributes of purity to be compatible with the eternal interests of man. From the other emanates the insiduous treachery of the archfiend, concocting nefarious schemes to trammel the soul, to repudiate the holiness of Christ, and bind with chains of dark despair. " There is but one means by which man's rights are maintained and preserved from the intricacy of sin and omnifarious deceptions. That is a pure heart indwelt by the Spirit of truth, that evades all error and leads into the light of heaven; the lack of which has given birth to the conflicting creeds, and brought forth the conglomerated mass of confusion or great inpediment to the progress o evangelization. The apostasy has through a careless ministry, blinded, deceived, and misguided, until the reality of perfect love and unity is a stranger in the Protestant realm." Let every soul consider these facts and flee to a more secure refuge, in Christ, and the brighter clime in the liberties of Armageddon, or the gospel. of God. Fight on, brethren. Armageddon is growing brighter; her host, growing larger; hell's forces, becoming weaker; and heaven is much nearer. Stand true, Upon the hottest field of battle, sword and spear in hand In Armageddon's plain, is where I take my stand I'll fight to kill the creeds, yea every schismatic clan. I'll work for God's own cause, against the cliques of man. Perad-venture some of them will be aroused from the awful lethargy, in whicn kingdom of heaven is at hand."— Matt. 4: 16, 17. Sin, having now swayed its huge, dark scepter over God's creation for more than four thousand years, and God now beholding their wickedness, and the weakness of the Mosaic law ( See Heb. 7: 18.) to redeem them ( See Gal. 3: 21.), sent his only begotten Son into the world to die the igno-minious death on the cross, and thereby ransom them from the Adamic fall. Read Rom. 5: 12- 21. Ere long we find this same beloved Son of God, at the beginning of his ministerial service, using these noted words of warning: " Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Again, after a short period of time, we find him in pleading tones, crying out thus: " Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."— Matt. I f : 28- 30 At this period, God seemed to extend his utmost pity; which can be readily preceived by these pleadings, which he spoke through his Son. For centuries the Jewish nation was the only nation blessed by the great omnipotent being, known as the Almighty God. Buz now, having sent his beloved Son into the world, to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness ( Dan. 9: 24), he anoints him Prince of Peace ( See Isa. 9: 6.) " that he might reconcile both [ Jew and Gen-tile] unto God in one body, by the cros3, having slain the enmity there-by."— Eph. 2: 16. There now being no respective distinction made as to nationality, Jesus, the great Prince of Peace, in his sweet melting tones of compassion, broke forth in this noted invitation, " Come unto me. all ye that labor [ both Jew and Gentile] and are heavy laden." Hithtrto the Jews, being the chosen people of God and supposing themselves in esteem to be above all men, looked down very disgracefully upon the Gentile world, regarding them as dogs. But Jesus in his in-finite mercy, even stoops so low as to offer saving grace to this wretched class of Adam's posterity. And gives the Jews to understand the same, by speaking in their presence as follows: " I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved." — jno. 10: q. And so it is at the present epoch. No distinction is made; but whosoever will, may come and take of the water of life freely. Although such divine, infinite love has been bestowed upon our fallen race, they do not seem to appre-ciate it; but glide swiftly over the rapids of time, into an endless eternity, there to reap the reward of their own planting. Professors also, in vast multitudes, scoffing and jeer-ing at the work of God, that is being undeniably wrought by his omnipo-tent hand. They also, are fast bounding their way down the broad road ( Man. 7: 13) to an endless hell. For this reason a warning must go forth from the Word, in all holy love, , revvewrreren. Cannot some messenger s: nt of the Lord answer that call? was heard on two occasions to call the GOSPEL TRUMPET " a short cut to hell." And when we asked him personally about this assertion, he acknr wledged he made use of such expreorions, without the least apology, but rather justifying him self in the use of such vile language. He also teaches that the ten corn mandments are still binding upon Caristians, which is contrary to the p am n teaching of the New Testa-me rit. See 2 Cor. 3: 4 14; Ex. 34: 28; Help 8: 7- to, 13; to: g; 7: 18, 19 Creel published an article in the secular pater at Hammond, La. recenily, in which he teaches this very thing. Bradley stands shoulder to should-er- wail Creel in his crookedness, and sat s, " Crt ei is the purest man among a thousand" Bradiet also takes a stand against divine healing, and teaches that it is the duty of all Christians to call in the doctor and take medicine when they are sick. We faithfully ad-monished him of his error face to face, but he obstinately refused to give it up. It has also been clearly manifest-ed that both Creel and Bradley pos- , ess a St If- euriceited and puffed up spirit. Bradley has for years made it a practice to carry from place to place certificates signed by both saints and sinners to prove his character. Sometimes he has even written recommendations and hand-ed to other brethren to copy and sign so as to wear the appearance of hav-ing been written by the party by whom it was signed. We have in our possession a letter of this kind, which is alleged by the brother in whose hand it now stands to have been written by Bradley and handed to him to be copied and signed in his own hand. None but a graceless and puffed up heart could descend to such schemes to cover the detects of his character. It has; also been affirmed by many faithful brethren that both these men have not been straight in their financial dealings. The evil spirit has been manifested in them in many ways. We therefore warn all the saints to have no fellowship with them, ex cept they repent of their sins and obtain salvation. You cannot ac-knowledge them in their present condition to be men of G0d, nor al-low them to preach in your houses of worship, and remain guiltless be-fore God. Wm. G. SCHELL. WIT WORK IN INDIA. EAR SAINTS OF GOD: Husband and I are in the work here, also Sister Rosa Turner. The pure Word has never been preached in this place before, but we are dealing out the truth in love to the best of our ability. This is our first work in new fields and we are young and need your prayers. We have had many calls to pray for the sick, and a number have been healed. There are a few saints here that have be-come more established by our com-ing here. Some have been under conviction. The Devil was seeming-ly asleep when we came to this piace but he has become wonderfully stir-red and there is much opposition to the truth. We have large attend-ance and some are real favorable to the truth. The schoolhouses are open for our meetings. The Lord is blessing us and providing for us. We need much wisdom to know how to deal with people. We have so many calls for real gospel work here and we often feel our weakness. Pray much for us. We have passed through many trials but the Lord is our strength. Your brother and sister in the one body, S. C. AND D. C. CRUZAN. GRAND RAPIDS, MICH., Mar. 8. Painful Duty, TDOYALTY to God and the purity aA of his holy cause, has made it our painfel duty to sound notes of warning through the TRUMPET against A. L. Creel of Meridian, Miss. and W. W. Bradley of Ham-mond, La. These men have by crooked lives and false teaching hindered the Lord's work in the South for a long time. They are both possessed with lying spirits, which we have the testimonies of many faithful brethren in the South to prove. Also the very same spirit was clearly man, ifested in them both in a personal interview we had with them while in the South. This to warn me against such present- ! day errors as " Perfectionism" and ' Divine Healing" which according to her opinion spoiled many an active and useful worker and ren- ; dered them useless for life. And so much so that they began to pray fo I me that I may not be deceived b any such false (?) teaching. And be sides they wrote to our Principal an N Superintendent of the Barracks, t have a talk with me about thes things, who accordingly came to as me what my views were concernin " perfection," and tried to persuad me to believe the popular views o " holiness," which teach that we can not get rid of the " sinful nature this side the grave. I spoke to him to hold up the pure truth in suc words as the Spirit gave me at th time. He was led to see that it wa clear enough in theory to prov from the Bible but it is not easy t live it, and also that it is no fault o God's part but on man's part that i is so. Praise the Lord! He indeed has won the victory. How bad it i to say, God does not do it, only be cause we do not get it because o our unbelief! In spite of all these oppositions the word of God has not been bound. The truth is making its way on all hands. One of my friends is seriously considering this matter and praying about it and we have studied together your " Secret of Salvation," only last week. This friend is almost persuaded to see the will of God concerning " faith healing" and the glorious privilege of a child of God on that line. Praise the Lord for that! One brother who has got yOUI books—" Divine Healing" and " The Secret of Salvation" has been so pleased that he expressed his desire to write to you. He is a splendid man working for the Master in East Bengal. There are others who are thinking seriously, and some have seen the ' one part ( sanctification), and are praying for the other part of the truth ( divine healing). May the Lord lead them right. My dear brother, you would in-deed be delighted to hear that the sister on whom the anointed hand-kerchief was applied is so much better, both in body and soul. Her sickly countenance has entirely been changed, and she looks like a well and healthy body, quite changed. She has entirely changed her deli-cate way of living, which she was compelled to adopt on account of her frail constitution. She has adopt-ed a very simple way of living, and given up many useless and unneces-sary little and big things. Her case has been a wonder to many. Be-fore, she could not walk, but now she can do it with ease. She is living in East Bengal now, and as I was corn-ing the other day from Calcutta over 300 miles from here) passing hat place where she was staying, I topped there to see her and it was pleasant surprise to me to see her S she was. She has been compelled y the Spirit to give up bitter feel-ngs against her enemies and has een reconciled to them even at the isk of losing her own sense of pride. ow she is as meek and lowly of eart as any. Praise the Lord for uch a signal defeat of the Devil and is • hosts as the Lord has accom-lished. Indeed he has manifested is power unmistakably through her. h, what a Savior is Jesus our ing! GOSPEL TRUMPET READERS: We wish to report that the Lord is work-ing among us here in Texas. We labored six weeks in Ft. Worth and vicinity, and the Lord was with us in converting, sanctifying, and healing power. About twelve or fifteen sought the Lord during the meeting and great blessing rested upon the heritage of the Lord. A fortune teller was heavily convicted and sought the Lord earnestly, but the blessing was held from her on account of her cursing God at one time in life. Pray that God may grant repentance to that soul. An old lady was delivered from tobacco and snuff aftei- using the filthy weed sixty- two years. Praise God for his saving and healing power! Yours in Jesus, E. F. HOUGHTON. ST. LOUIS, MICH., March 9. DEAR TRUMPET READERS: I feel led of God to report throu gh the TRUMPET some of God's goodness and work in saving, healing, and establishing his believers. Praise God forever! We opened meeting at Bush Creek schoolhouse Dec. 24, which lasted over three Sundays. Thirteen souls came to the altar, some to be made free and some for sanctification. From there we came home and held four nights. There were thirteen at the altar, also some were wonderfully healed. From my place we started for Gladwin Co. and , found things in a very bad shape; but by prayer and fasting God showed us what to do and pro-ceed and so we obeyed and God com-menced to work. But on atcount of cold weather we had not very large assemblies, but a few were saved. From there I came home and met Bro. Wm. Warren at St. Louis where he was holding meeting for some time. Feb. 21 we commenced meet-ing at Pleasant Vale. This meeting lasted two weeks, with large congre-gations. There was some opposition from Adventism but the Word un-covered their blindness. In this meeting Bros. Shelby and Warren were much used of the Lord. Only one soul saved, but the truth went forth in power. Your brother under the blood, DAVID MITCHELL. LOVES LAKE, LA., March 4. DEARLY BELOVED TRUMPET READ-ERS: We greet you again in Jesus' name. This morning finds us saved from all sin. Praise his name! We came here Feb. 5, and found the little church in very good condition, although in need of real advance-ment, and all anxious to go forward. We held meeting here ten days, and the dear Lord gave us a glorious meeting. Sectism is hard against the straight way here, while they claim to be sanctified. Several are Coming out of sectism. To God be all the glory. We just closed meet-ing near Iverson, La. The Lord gave us a precious victory in Jesus' name. Two saved from sin, and one I3aptist preacher came out of sectism. I have never seen people more anxious for the Bible way than they are near Iverson. 0 dear brethren, the harvest is truly great, and the laborers are few. Let us pray the Lord to send more faithful laborers to help gather the remnant of his people into the one fold. The dear Lord is helping us to advance as never before in meekness and ing every night and the people are accepting the truth. It takes real humility and a complete consecration to meet trials. But, praise the Lord, his grace is sufficient. We have no means only as the Lord provides. We now have three places of wor-ship. One place is at a private house. and one at the Mission, and the other is a large hall . about 40x 6o feet, which we have secured for one year for $ 32. This is located on Granville Avenue, quite a public place, and we are looking to the Lord to bless the work. Dear saints, pray for us that we may glor-ify God in all we do, and be kept humble. Your brother, all on the alta, r, GEO. FILHOUR. GOSTA V1HARI MAKAR. P. S. Since writing the main letter I have gone through a greater por-tion of your " Secret of Salvation" and have been greatly helped. GOSPEL MISSION, 741- 15 ST., LOUISVILLE, KY., Feb. • 3. TO THE TRUMPET READERS: The Lord is establishing his truth in various parts of the city. Meetings have opened up in several new places, and the honest are accepting the glorious truth and walking in its present shining light. Several miraculous cases of divine healing have been witnessed by he congre-gations. Sinners do admit the day of God healing the afflicted body is only passed with . unbelievers, or semi- infidels. God is saving some from sin and division or preparing the way for others in about every regular service. There is much to be done in this city, not only in raising up the standard, but in show-ing- the innocent ones how to detect false doctrines. Several are to be baptized • soon. • We enjoyed a precious ordinance service with the saints here. We praise the Lord for " knowing these things," and he made us happy in doing them. After fast-ing and special prayer for several days, and careful waiting on the Lord, Bro. D. V. Shallers was ordain-ed elder of the church of God in this city; Bros. W. N. Meyers and J. K. Morrison were ordained deacons. Bro. J. S. Brinkworth was ordained to the work of an evange-list; Sister W. N. Myers, to the work of a missionary. I askj • TIONESTA, PA. you all to pray earnestly for me, DEARLY BELOVED: The assembly that I may reach the depths of Bible meeting on German Hill was a good meeting. Quite a number of saints present from the surrounding coun-try. The ministerial brethren present were Bros. Gilmore, Stewart, and Griggs. The meeting continued over three Sundays. There were nine converted and quite a number consecrated for sanctification. It was a real sinking down time into the will of God, and some of us applied to the Lord for healing, and are healed. To God be all the glory. We also attended to the ordinances of God's own dear church. Thirty happy saints participated in wash-ing one another's feet. • God has a little church in this place numbering from twenty- five to thirty. • God help them to keep in the love of God. I intend to continue in these parts for some time. c. w. KOoNCE. the dear Lord enough for his kind-ness to me in bringing me from death unto life! After this we were taken to Indiana and from there to Kansas where I was among cowboys and learned to be a very bad boy. I have heard some of my friends say that if their parents would not let them do as they wished, and do as they desired, they were going to leave home. I tell you, dear friends, you do not know what it is to be out among strangers or you would not talk in this way to your parents. I have learned that there is nothing like a good home and kind parents, even if we are corrected; it is for our gocd as the Bible says, " For what son is he that the father chasteneth not?" I was almost a cripple with one of my limbs, had to wear a bandage to keep the veins from bursting, had to sit down a great deal of my time with my limb resting on a chair, and suffered pain day and night. Now I have thrown away the bandage and can do my Own work, for which I give God all the praise. I had doctored for years: had given up all hope until I took the Lord and found him as good as his word. Also. I proved his mighty healing power with my little children. I give him all the glory. Your saved sister, ANNA KAUFMAN. BONFIELD, ILL. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: I feel led of God to send in my first testimony. I am praising God for salvation which keeps me day by day. I was saved while in the sect but I could never find the real foundation to stand upon until last August God sent one of his little ones here to preach the trirth, and praise God, I then could see where I was standing. I was saved and sanctified during the great soul feast we had here last September. I can truly say I never felt so free as I feel now. If the truth ever gets a solid hold in California it rill be through consecrated and per-sistent missionary efforts. " Flying messengers" will accomplish little in this state unless they become thickly located and can follow each other's efforts closely. Men that have families and plenty of faith with perseverance, competent to spread this reformation in a missionary manner— I mean those that can stay a good long while in one place and " wear well," so to speak gain and hold the confidence of the people. You will find this a good field to locate in. It is a common proverb here: " Evangelists blow out in Cali-fornia." This is true when they come with much " blow" in them. So if you have any anticipations of coming to California do not let climate, flowers, scenery, or fruit tempt you to come, or you may find some experience most too dear to appreciate properly all at once. A hint to the wise is sufficient; so be sure God leads. You will be more appreciated after being thoroughly proved than before, that is, you will be held more or less in suspicion as a rogue until your virtues win confi-deuce for you. I am praising God this morning for a salvation that saves me and keeps me saved, free from sin every moment. Oh, how my soul does rejoice to know that my name is on the book of life! I never can praise the dear Lord enough for calling me from sin and confusion to his kingdom of peace and love. I realize this morning as never before that it is sweet to trust In Jesus, trust him in sickness and trouble as well as in health and pleasure. He has so wonderfully healed us several times, I would much rather trust him than an earth-ly physician. He healed a broken arm for my little boy in answer to prayer. There are only a few saints here. This is a very wicked place. Your sister saved and kept, LAURA PICKETT. WOODBURN, ORE. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: I wish to testify through the TRUMPET of the goodness and mercy of our God in healing all our diseases. I took a severe cold in January and had chills and fever es- ery day for a few days. And then it settled on my lungs and illy whole body was in dreadful pain and I was burning with fever. Husband and children and Sis-ter Green united in prayer for me and the dear Lord took the pain away Glory to his name! But my body was so sore I could not move with out crying aloud; it hurt me so. They prayed for me again at. d blessed Lord removed the soreness. Praise his holy name for ever! Then my lungs filled up so I could hardly breathe. • As there were no elders within thirty miles, I had not been anointed. Husba. nd sent for them to come but the dear Lord willed it otherwise; he had other work for them to do. So on the thirtieth of January in the evening at eight o'clock we received an anointed handker-chief from Brother Green, in the name of Jesus to be applied with prayer to God for my healing, and glory be to Jesus, the work was done I got right up and dressed myself in the name of Jesus and did not go back to bed until late. The news of my sickness had gone quickly over town. As it was Saturday the neigh-bors had gathered in to see me and thought I was going to die. They told my husband if I died my blood would be on his head. S0111; 1 talked of putting him in the as3 lulu : But I sent word in the morning that I wanted to see them, and when I met them at the door they were astonish-ed at the wonderful works of God. Oh! Do we have to inherit disease or commit sin to be sick? No. Keep Not Silent. 6 - EJOICE in the Lord, 0 ye Questions on. Diuine Healing. What is the differance between " sick" and " afflicted" as spoken of in . l aeries 5: 13.14? In the 13 , h verse it says, " Is any among you aft c ed, let him pray." The word " afflicted" here has refer-ence to pain of body or mind— any kind of trouble, distress, and such like. Under such circumstances the apostle admonishes us to pray. In one place we are told to cast our cares upon the Lord, for he careth for us. " Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all." Many people would not be in so much trouble if they would learn to cast their cares upon the Lord. If the affliction is of a bodily nature, and your own prayers will not pre-vail, then you have the privilege of having some one to join with you in prayer. Matt. 18: 19; James 5: 16. When a person becomes so sick that he cannot exercise faith, or grasp the promises of God for his case, then the instructions are in verse rat " Call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anoint-ing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up." When Paul was preaching there were s J many calls for him that he could not fill them all. So we read in Acts 19: 12 that " God wrought Fp, slat miracles by the hand of Paul, so that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs and aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them." The principal diffeseuce in the two texts spoken of is, that the latter is a sickness that deprives one of exercis-ing faith for the healing of his body, while in the first instance he may only be in trouble, distress, or some bodily pain that would not render him helpless. Who is the author of sickness? The Devil is the author of sickness, because if it had not been for his causing man to fall in the beginning there would have been no sickness, and in these days sickness is directly, or indirectly caused by him; although a person may be sick without com-mitting sin— may have a diseased body without having a diseased soul. But when a person is weak through sickness and disease it gives the enemy of the soul a better chance to harrass him. Job was very much afflicted with sores and bodily infirm-ities, yet the Devil was not able to touch his soul nor cause him to turn against the Lord. We read of one who came to Jesus to be healed, and the question was asked," Because of whose sin was this affliction brought upon him?" The answer was given that neither he, nor his parents had sinned by which the disease was brought upon him. We also read of a woman who was bound by Satan, and when she was healed she was made whole. Did the Lard Jesus ever inakerartrotte War? He came to heal peoOle, not tip make them sick. See Matt. 8: r i rPet. 24. " And with b is stri pes 9. ra we healed."— Isa. 53 : 5. SOUTH OMAHA, Feb. 2, 1897. DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS: For the glory of God and the strengthen-ing of the faith of others, I desire to tell of the dealing of the Lord with us. This morning my wife, came scream-ing, and said the baby had a safety-pin down its throat. I ran to where it was, and found that it was down its throat, and beyond our risach, and the blood was running from its throat, and the child was g sing into convulsions. As we could do noth-ing for it but pray, I laid my hand on its head, and cried to the Lord to heal the baby. It was no sooner spoken than the pia loosed and came out of its mouth, for which we give God all the glory and praise. Your saved brother, L. E. WILSON. 102: 16- 18. " Be ye glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy."— Isa. 65: 18. And in Zech. 1o: 7 he declares that " their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see it," etc. Zech. 9: 9. Rejoice greatly and shout, 0 daughter of Zion. I And the ransomed of the Lord corn shall return, and come to Zion with " I righteous; for praise is comtly for the upr; ght."— P., a. .33: E. " Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that crdereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God."-- Psa. 5o: 23 For some time I have felt the Lord would have me write some, on the subject of " Rendering unto the Lord the praise and glory that is due his name." When I see how the enemy of all righteousness is doing all he can, in every way, to keep the children of God silent on this line, my very soul cries out in defense of the gospel and I canoot hold my peace any longer. The God of our salvation commands us to keep not silent, and give him no rest; yea, we are to never hold our peace ( day nor night) till he c stablish and make Jtrusalem a praise, in the earth. 0 dear saints of God throughout the land, " let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanks-giving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalins."— Psa. 95; 1, 2. And again, in Psa. 98: 4, he com-mands us to make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise." Yea, " let those that put their trust in thee rejoice; let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them."— Psa. 5: II. Joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit, and the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost; and through the same power we are filled with joy in believing. See Rom 15: 13. Well, but some may say, " I have it in my heart." Ah, but the Word says, " Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh " And again, " Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion; for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee." But still some will hold to this: " that they did not keep up the feast-ing after the prodigal son returned." Well, I do not know what the son did, after he re. terned home. It was his duty as well as his privilege to eat, drink, and be merry; and we do not read of his returning to the swine to fill himself on the husks. No, dear ones, he was glad to get home, and I believe he enjoyed staying there. Be that as it may, this one thing I do know: we have a con-tinual feast. And it is a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. " There-fore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."— r Cor. 5: 8. Now let us see some more of the precious word of God. " When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory. He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer. This shall be written for the generation to come: And the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord."— Psa. t in deed. " And in that day thou shalt say, Lord I will praise thee Praise t Lord, call upon his name, declare It doings among the people, make me tion that his name is exalted," Re Isa. 12. " Be glad in the Lord, a rejoice, ye righteous; and shout f joy, all ye that are upright in heart — Psa. 32: I 1. Now we read in Nehemiah 12: that at the dedication of the wal of Jerusalem " they offered gre sacrifices, and rejoiced; for God ha made them rejoice with great jo the wives also and the children r joiced; so that the joy of Jerusale was heard even afar off." And Moses and the children of Israel sari songs of deliverance, how much mor ought we! I do praise God that he has people that are out on the sea of glas mingled with fire, that have go ten the victory over the beast, an over his image, and over his mark and over the number of his nam having the harps of God. " An they sing the song of Moses th servant of God, and the song of th Lamb, saying, Great and mrnarvelou are thy works, Lord God Almighty just and true are thy ways, tho King of saints. who shall not fea thee, 0 Lord, and glorify thy name See Rev. 15: 2- 4. Surely not hi redeemed ones, for " who is like unt thee, 0 Lord, among the gods Who is like thee, glorious in holiness fearful in praises, doing wonders?", Well, but some one says, " I have not just been delivered out of sin ant sectism, or else I would praise him for it. My deliverance was some time ago as well as my rejoicing, and do I need to keep it up? Oh, when we see the increasing deceitfulness sin and sectism, we are made to oice, more and more for our es-pe. But this is not all we have to oice, and praise the dear Lord for. t as the Psalmist says, " Blessed the Lord God who daily loadeth us with benefits." And again, " Oh, how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men. His word is the joy and rejoicing of my heart. For his statutes are right, rejoicing the heart. Now charity rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth. Psa. 162. - Also the deeper we get in humility and the more we increase with the increase of God, the more we have to praise him for, and the more we have to declare to the people of the beauties there are in him. Yea, and we will declare it with rejoicing. he beautiful words of Acts. 2: 25 e forcibly to my mind, which says foresaw the Lord always before of rej ca rej Bu be songs and everlasting joy upon t heads: they, shall obtain joy gladness, and sorrow and sigh shall flee away." " Let the redee of the Lord say so, whom he h redeemed from the hand of enemy," and in his name. For saith, " The voice of rejoicing a salvation is in the tabernacles the righteous."— Psa. 118: 15. They both go together, where salvation is there is rejoici Well, how long need we keep t up? " Rejoice in the Lord alw and again I say, Rejoice. — Phil. 4 " Rejoice evermore."— I Thess, 5: " Let all those who put their trust thee rejoice: let them ever sh for joy, because thou defend them: let them also that love t name be joyful in thee."- P- sa. 5: The Lord commands us to ren unto him the praise that is due name. And like the Psalmist, will bless the Lord at all tint His praise shall continually be my mouth." May God hel ls us " hold fast the confidence and t rejoicing firm unto the end." It not enough to simply say, " Prai he Lord," but we are to praise h with the whole heart, in truth a heir my face, for he is on my right hand, and that I shall not be moved; there-ing fore did my heart rejoice, and my med tongue was glad: moreover also my ath flesh shall rest in hope; because thou him neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy s to thou shalt make me full of joy with he thy countenance." " For he hath not despised nor ab-horred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard." Let the gates of praise be open, Sounding forth the praise within, Litt us magnify his praises, For he saves and keeps from sin. When the heart is filled with praises, And the- lips declare the same, How it cheers the sad and lonely, How it magnifies his name. And now may grace and truth front God the Father be multiplied unto all his redeemed ones; and may this message, which we feel God has sent, yield an abundance of re-joicing unto God; And may the saints everywhere be more joyful in glory. " Let them sing aloud upon their beds." Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. Praise him in the sanctuary, Praise him in the song and prayer, Praise him clay and night., adore him, Praise him, praise him, everywhere. HERE is nothing which we can do that will prove a greater means of advancing our faith than a firm decision to trust the Lord for everything, under all circumstances. A great many of the Lord's people have never made such a decision, consequently when they become afflicted with a serious affliction, about the first suggestion the Devil makes is, " You never said you would take th e Lord only for your physi-cian under all circumstances; hence, it will be all ri ght for you to send for the doctor, or at least it would be all right to take a little medi-cine." And these suggestions will come up with such force that it will be almost impossible to hold a per-fect trust in the Lord for divine healing. But we so metimes hear some say, " I have not sufficient faith to trust the Lord for my healing under all circumstances. This no doubt is true in many cases, but we are now telling you how to get faith. One great reason why you have no per-fect faith in God, is because you have never decided to take the Lord for your only physician. Perhaps some one will stay when he reads this, " I fear it would not be right for me to set aside all earthly physicians, and all earthly remedies, for I might not have the faith to carry it out." Oh, such spiritual cowardice! Why should man be afraid to trust in God? Why should we put more con-fidence in finite man than in the in-finite and omnipotent God? " It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."— Psa. ti8: 8. " Blessed is that man that maketh Lord his ttrruusstt..""— PsPassa .40: 4. " Trust in him at all times, ye peo-ple; pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us."— Psa. 62: 8. " Thus saith the Lord: Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord; for he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parch-ed places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. " Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is; for he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."— jer. 17: 5- S. Oh beloved! can we not with these wonderful words of God before us take him for our only refuge? Can we not throw away our trust in everything but Jesus? He offers in his word to become our family phy-sician, and to heal " all our diseases." See Psa. Io3: 3. Can we not give him such a position? We are only stepping out upon that grand old New Testament truth, " Christ is all in all," to do so. And until we make such a consecration we can never possess perfect healing faith. But sorne may ask, Is it scriptural to take such a stand? We answer, Yes. No place in the Bible are we commanded, or even allowed to re-sort to' human aid when we are sick; but contrariwise we are commanded to trust in the Lord. Therefore, cthaer odn leyv secrriyp tpuhrayls sictaiannd , b ut tod iIs- Christ, and every remedy but Jesus " prayer of faith." I AM ON THE ROCK. Armageddon. conclude that we are safe while standing upon the truth of Omnipotence, outside of all man - constructed machinery. A man and w ife preferred. Robert J. Goode, Crittenden, Pima Co, Arizona. Brother E. Townsend, New Field, Me., Writes: " I have been praying and waiting and waiting with tears for over two years fur some one anointed of the Lord to come here and preach the whole gospel, and none have come yet." Cannot some messenger s: nt of the Lord answer that call? was heard on two occasions to call the GOSPEL TRUMPET " a short cut to hell." And when we asked him personally about this assertion, he acknr wledged he made use of such expreorions, without the least apology, but rather justifying him self in the use of such vile language. My DEARLY BELOVED BROTHER: Thank you very much for kindly : sending the books and tracts, which all are helpful and have been dis-tributed far and wide in the country. They are doing thier work effectually and the thoughts out of many hearts ( are being revealed. Many there are t who when they once read a paper or s a tract like to have some more again a but there are others who would keep a themselves away from its influence. b Perhaps you remember that I told i you of some friends who did not like b " the tone of the paper" meaning the r GOSPEL TRUMPET. BYRUM: I thank you for kindly presenting me with two of your works; namely, " The Secret of Salvation " and " Divine Healing of Soul and Body." I received them two or three days ago and have gone through a little over half ofthem since. I believe the fo rifler of the two books reached me at the right moment guided by the Divine Hand, and certainly in answer to your prayer. r A day or two before, I received two Y sample copies of your GOSPEL TRUM- " PET with a supplement advertising d " The Secret of Salvation." The very O sight of the name led me to wish e that I could possess myself with a k copy of it. In looking over the in-g dex of adiajects I came to the subject. e " Sanctified." EAR SAINTS OF GOD: Husband and I are in the work here, also Sister Rosa Turner. And be sides they wrote to our Principal an N Superintendent of the Barracks, t have a talk with me about thes things, who accordingly came to as me what my views were concernin " perfection" and tried to persuad me to believe the popular views o " holiness" which teach that we can not get rid of the " sinful nature this side the grave. One of my friends is seriously considering this matter and praying about it and we have studied together your " Secret of Salvation" only last week. I have come here to stay a ew days more, and am doing the orks of him whose I am and whom serve. The Lord has been with e continually to help me and rengthen me, with power, so I am ejoicing in him. We praise the Lord for " knowing these things" and he made us happy in doing them. I have learned that there is nothing like a good home and kind parents, even if we are corrected; it is for our gocd as the Bible says, " For what son is he that the father chasteneth not?" I was saved while in the sect but I could never find the real foundation to stand upon until last August God sent one of his little ones here to preach the trirth, and praise God, I then could see where I was standing. I was saved and sanctified during the great soul feast we had here last September. I can truly say I never felt so free as I feel now. TO HIS SAINTS: We report vic-tory through Jesus' name. , We passed the winter in Fresno, Cal. in street and cottage meetings, distrib-uting tracts and papers. loaning books, and visiting the sick from house to house. If the truth ever gets a solid hold in California it rill be through consecrated and per-sistent missionary efforts. " Flying messengers" will accomplish little in this state unless they become thickly located and can follow each other's efforts closely. Men that have families and plenty of faith with perseverance, competent to spread this reformation in a missionary manner— I mean those that can stay a good long while in one place and " wear well" so to speak gain and hold the confidence of the people. We have witnessed some good results in our own I sometimes would go with them; but experience as well as seeing others the members themselves would go blessed. Oh! I cannot praise the dear Lord enough for what he has done for me and mine. Your sister in Christ, healed and cleansed, through his precious blood, MRS. CATHARINE VREDENBURG. REDDICR, ILL. And I want to ask you to pray for my little baby that the Lord may heal it of sore eyes and bad cold. Pray that I may ever hold out faith-ful until the Lord calls me home. Your saved sister in Christ, MRS. M. A. MCLEMORE. SUMMITVILLE, IND. DEAR TRUMPET READERS: I desire to praise God through the columns of the TRUMPET for his goodness to me. He has provided the way of our escape from sin, and has given me the actual knowledge of my present saved condition. He has shown his hand of sympathy and love to us in the past few months. The way gets sweeter and brighter. God has been with us many times in the healing of the sick of my family, myself, and many others. I do praise him for the privilege of stand-ing on his word. It is possible for them to obey the laws of his written word, and yet in some way transgress the laws of nature. But we have the promise of his keeping power, and if we should unintentionally, or unawares, trans-gress the laws of nature, or in any way tg came sick, we can comply with the instructions of the Word and be made free from all diseases. We read of one who came to Jesus to be healed, and the question was asked" Because of whose sin was this affliction brought upon him?" The answer was given that neither he, nor his parents had sinned by which the disease was brought upon him. 1o: 7 he declares that " their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see it" etc. Zech. This shall be written for the generation to come: And the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord."— Psa. t in deed. " And in that day thou shalt say, Lord I will praise thee Praise t Lord, call upon his name, declare It doings among the people, make me tion that his name is exalted" Re Isa. 2: 25 e forcibly to my mind, which says foresaw the Lord always before of rej ca rej Bu be songs and everlasting joy upon t heads: they, shall obtain joy gladness, and sorrow and sigh shall flee away." And like the Psalmist, will bless the Lord at all tint His praise shall continually be my mouth." May God hel ls us " hold fast the confidence and t rejoicing firm unto the end." It not enough to simply say, " Prai he Lord" but we are to praise h with the whole heart, in truth a heir my face, for he is on my right hand, and that I shall not be moved; there-ing fore did my heart rejoice, and my med tongue was glad: moreover also my ath flesh shall rest in hope; because thou him neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy s to thou shalt make me full of joy with he thy countenance." Let the gates of praise be open, Sounding forth the praise within, Litt us magnify his praises, For he saves and keeps from sin. DELLA FRY. ,, the wilt not leave my soul in hell, of One to see corruption. Thou hast of God help us to bring all the tithes How to Get Faith. We are only stepping out upon that grand old New Testament truth, " Christ is all in all" to do so. Therefore, cthaer odn leyv secrriyp tpuhrayls sictaiannd , b ut tod iIs- Christ, and every remedy but Jesus " prayer of faith."
