Blow ye the Tru ropet in Zion, sound an alarm in my holy mountain. Joe12: 1. The Lord God shall blow the Trumpet, and go with whirlwinds. Zech. 9: 14. All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a Trumpet, hear ye. Isa. 18: 3. And he shall send his angels with . a great sound of a Trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven t o the other. Nat. , t11 : 31. So will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. Eze. 34: 12. Jer. 32: 39. 01. Seisailloie ■ s• in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own. selves?"- 2 Cor. 13: 5. We must know our-selves; we must be positive. Doubts and fears, questionings and uncer-tainties, are beneath the apostolic plane. No one can properly manifest the life of Christ in his daily deport-ment if there be a shadow of doubt as to his spiritual whereabouts. His title must be clear. He must know there is a crown of righteousness laid up for him. Bright hopes and calm assurance written by the Spirit of truth in the soul, find expression in the countenance and outer life. This is glorifying to God. If doubts and fears be entertained they will also find expression in the life; and the standard of Christian faith, peace, and positiveness will be lowered. How can we have the blessing of full assurance? " Blessed are they that do his commandments."- Rev. 22: 14. " And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him and keepeth not his com-mandments is a liar and the truth is not in him; but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected; hereby know we that we are in him."- I Jno. 2: 3- 5. Dear reader, let us come to the infallible Word and examine the reason of our hope. Let us probe the heart and know the foundation of our confidence. Execute unequiv-ocally the judgments of the Word upon your soul. Have you as an every- day, practical soul- experience all you know of God's word? If not, what is your excuse? Have you none, then why so indifferent? Some who have been long in the way and gained much knowledge testify that their faith is weak. God commands, " Be strong." What is your excuse? I do not love secret prayer as I should. What is your excuse?- I am not as kind as I should be. What is your excuse? I am not as meek and humble as I should be. What is your excuse? I am not longsuffer-ing, I am not bold enough, _ I love the world too much, I am not dead to self, I do not love others as I should, I have not the earnestness, I have not the sobriety, I cannot count all things joy, I am not free in giving, I have not the real victory. And where in God's word is found the excuse for all this? Too many, instead of being excused by the Word, excuse themselves. That is not just examination. Dear Christian, will you allow me to exhort you to closely and criti-cally examine your soul experience? Not a superficial examination, but deep and thorough. Oh, the danger of inadvertency! If the meditation of your heart is not acceptable to God, if you are covetous, if you are putting on unnecessary articles of clothing, if you are dressing your children with the world, if you have not control of them, if you are not all you might, should, and could have known God's word says you should be, what excuse can you give God and your own soul? Many will ask others to „ pray that they may have an increase, and they never put forth an earnest diligent effort to obtain it. In addition to our constantly watching, and praying I have found to seek some place of solitude at the close of each day and there closely examine, in the light of God's word, our life as lived and practiced through the day, with a fervent prayer for a practical experience of all known truth, to be of great benefit to my soul. No one can have the constant witnessing of God's Spirit of his approval nor bright hopes of a blessed immortal-ity who does not experience and live to all he knows. Doubts and fears and misgivings are the result of not doing what God has shown by his word or Spirit should be done. If our examinations be thorough and impartial, and we earnestly seek God for a perfect conformity of heart and life to his blessed word, we sha'l soon experience a meekness of spirit, a heart of bright hopes, a countenance of joy, gentleness of manners, kindness of word, and a life of Christ, as we go journeying onward toward the crown that shall soon be forever ours. Yours in blessed hope, C. ORR. Millennialism, or the Reign of Righteousness, Exposed. N " these last days" of deception, the enemy of truth is inspiring the minds of the people with a sup-posed " age to COITItt", where a general reign of righteousness and blessed-ness is looked for. Some hold that the literal city of Jerusalem will be the capital of the world, and Christ will set up his throne there, and reign over the earth. But all such chaffy doctrine is outside the word of God. We affirm in the name of the God of the Bible, that the blessed reign of peace and righteousness spoken of by the prophets of old, is now fulfilled in this dispensation of divine grace, and that all doctrines to the contrary are doctrines of devils. " And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."- Luke 1: 3o- 33. " For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his govern-ment and peace there shall be no end, upon the tnrone of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever."- Isa. 9: 6, 7. " Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved."- Jer. 23 5,6 In fulfillment of the above prophecies, Jesus came " preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye and believe the gospel."- Mark 1: 14,15. " The reign of God is at hand."- Young. Even since John's day, " the kingdom of God is preach-ed, and every man presseth into it." - Luke 16: 16. Jesus said, " My king-dom is not of this world."- Jno. 18: 36. All the above scriptures positively teach that Christ set up the king-dom of God, and began his spiritual reign in the beginning of the present dispensation. - In the days of his reign, the prophet says, " Judah shall be saved," and " behold, Now is the day of salvation."- 2 Cor. 6: 2. But what is his throne? And where is it located? " God re gneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness."- Psa. 47: 8. I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days [ Jesus Christ] did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hairs of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him." " And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed."- Dan. 7: 9, io, 14. " The kingdom of God cometh not with observation. Neither shall they say, Lo here, or, Lo there; for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you."- Luke 17: 20,21. In• the above scriptures the follow-ing truth is clearly taught: Christ established his kingdom in the beginning of this dispensation, and NOW sways his scepter of love, " lead-ing captivity captive;" namely, cap-tures the souls of men and women, casts down the thrones of iniquity, establishes his throne of holiness in their hearts, and reigns supreme, the Prince of Peace. " God t- itteth on the throne of his holiness," which is " like a fiery flame." and reigns in the hearts o f his people. " TnE REIGN OF G ). D IS WITHIN YOU."- Luke, I 7: 21.- Young's Translation. Enthroned in the hearts of his people, Christ through them executes his righteous judgments in the earth. Psa. 149: 4- 9. " The Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion [ God's pure churchl from henceforth, even forever."- Micah 4: 7. But, says one, Does not the word of God teach a glorious spiritual reign of his saints? Is that present? We answer both the above questions with an emphatic YES. " But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever."- Dan. 7: 18. " For thou wast slain, and bast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests; and we shall reign on the earth."- Rev. 5- 9, IO. " WE REIGN ON THE EARTH."- Rotherham.. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father."- Rev. 1: 5,6. " But ye are a chosen generation a royal priesthood."- I Pet. 2: 9. This is clear. Christ hath redeem-ed us through his blood, from all iniquity, and hath mane us ( now in this time) kings and priests, and " we reign on the earth." " They which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign IN LIFE by one, Jesus Christ."- Rom. 5: 17. Thank God, this glorious reign of blessedness and peace we enter through the grace of God and enjoy " in this life." But, says the millennial advocate, If this blessed reign is enjoyed in this life, over what do we reign ? Answer. I. Over sin, Rom. 6: 14. 2. Over the world. I In°. 5: 4,5. 3. Over devils. Luke lo: 17- 19. 4. Over the " beast." Rev. 15: 2,3. Dear friend, be saved NOW. If you will forsake sin and meet the Bible conditions for full salvation, Christ will redeem you from all iniquity, and your soul will here enter a spiritual reign of p . ace and blessedness, whicn„ \ via glarpass ALONE WITH JESUS. Know Thyself, HE devoted Christian above all others knows himself. He is acquainted with God; he knows what God requires of him. He knows his own soul and its moral condition. He knows, when this life is ended, just where he shall spend eternity- blessed man. The unregenerated man may know the wanderings of the stars, he may collect and classify the produc-tions of nature and seek out many inventions, and yet knows - nothing as he ought to know it. There is many a gay dreamer frittering life's important hours away in a whirl-pool of doubts and fears, cares and confusion, never taking a direct, serious look into his soul, but en-deavoring to satisfy himself with the feeble hope that some way, even if it be by chance, he will be saved by and by in a better world than this. The humble Christian walks in a region far above, where all is calm assurance and glorious reality. He looks away with a strong eye of faith and beholds in the Savior's hand a bright crown for him. He knows full well, if the earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, he has a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Intellectual culture never brings this blessed positiveness. God, by his Spirit, shines this . knowledge into the soul. It is therefore not intel-lectual knowledge but soul- knowl-edge. The heart that is linked by love in close pioximity. to God is not affected by the prosperities nor adversities of this life. While the outer man may walk amid secular avocations, the inner man walks with God. He imbibes a portion of heaven, which brings a hope and restful assurance obviously exhibited in his countenance and general deportment. All Christians are aware there is much cold- hearted, formal profes-sing. It takes but little to persuade the worldly professor of his safety. One little text in his. favor serves to neutralize a score of others that are against him. Being born of the Spirit years ago encourages him in the hope he is saved to- day. A mi-raculous healing of the past serves to console him now, though he be living in violation of many com-mands. Satan has a ready sophistry to turn away the severity of God's quick and powerful word, and hurl deceived man onward to his eternal destiny. Many are deceived, but none need to be. The word of God marks out with unerring exactness, the path of life. Those who are deceived do not sit, in the light of God's truth, with honest and severe judgment upon their soul. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: Let US praise the Lord our God for the light he has given us on his word here in Mississippi and Louisiana through the visit of dear brothers Byrum and Schell. Divine healing had been preached here before the brethren came, but not in its fulness. There are now many taking the Lord for their physician that were not able to do so before. There are still many places here in Louisiana where the true gospel has never been preached. I have lately preached at some new places, and by the help of God will preach there again shortly. But, praise God, they did not know. Two months ago to- day I was anointed for healing, and, praise God, I re-cei- ved it. The pain ceased entirely and the cough is almost gone. MILO GLEETEN. you can trust to everything but th Lord in afflictions, and then expec to have the faith to be healed in sickness, you may obey the Word and call for the elders and they pray over you and the Lord man times honor his word by removing the pain, as long as the elders are there to pray the prayer of faith but when symptoms come back to try your faith, you find out you have not any and so, many times, instead of getting down deeper in your ex-perience you will straightway send for a doctor or resort to other means. God help every one that names the name of the Lord in this blessed evening light to get an ex-perience where they will not need to go over into Egypt for help. Oh, dear ones, honor the great King in all you do and say, for he alone is worthy; he is the one alto-gether lovely, the bright and morn-ing star, the great physician who beareth all our infirmities and healeth all our diseases. What a wonderful Lord that provideth so richly for our needs. We realize, dear ones, the Devil is fighting this line and is doing all he can to crush the work; but God grant that his children may stand fa et in one Spirit, striving together for the faith of the gospel. How long, dear ones, do you suppose that it would take for us to reach the apost( 1k faith, if we all contended for herbs instead of the faith? I am persuaded we would never reach it. So, dear ones, con-tend earnestly for the faith, abide in the Wordafor all else will fail. Yours in the love of Jesus, LOTTIE BORDEN. E SEE by the reading of God's word, that God gave the herb of the field for the service of man. When God made man he made him in his own image, and he looked upon his work and pro-nounced it good. Gen. 1: 31. But through transgression man fell and lost the image of God, and therefore brought on disease of the body as well as the soul. If God had made man with diseases in the body he could not nave pronounced his work good and very good Therefore, if man had not sinned, he would not have needed medicine and there-fore would not have had to put the herb to a different service than the Lord said it was for. We will now turn to Gen. 1: 2e and see what the Lord said the herb was for. " And God said, Behold I will give you every herb bearing seed [ margin—" seeding seed"] which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Meat here means food in general. Also Gen. 3: 18—" Thorns and also thistles it will bring forth to thee, and thou shall eat the herb of the field." And nowhere in the Word does he say it is for medicine. But when man lost the image of God out of the heart and disease was brought on the body, man resorted to the herb for healing. But in the begin-fling it was not so. But God has so provided in his own loving way that his children need not to flee into Egypt for healing. Q TSTIONS ANSWERED, — Please explain Acts 2: 38. B. R. This verse, which says, " Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of sins," is the great stronghold of water salvationists. And indeed, if it were isolated from the rest of the New Testament, it would seem to teach that remission of sins is received when we are in the act of being baptized. But the apostle Peter himself, who is the author of these words, explains them in I Pet. 3: 21. " The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us ( not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), by the resurrection of Jesus Christ." These words plainly state that baptism is not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but only saves in a figure. Peter had just in the preceding verses mentioned the salvation of Noah's family in the ark, which called out his expression " the like figure." By this expression he meant to teach that the deliverance of Noah's physical life in the ark was a type of the salvation of his soul, even as baptism is a figure of the salvation of our souls. As Noah's body was borne, and his physical life saved by the water which caused the ark to float, so his soul was borne and his spiritual life saved by God's grace. " The like figure" is, as our bodies are entirely covered and hid out of sight in bap-tism, so our souls are perfectly hid away in Christ by the blood of Christ, when we obtain sabettion. These are the exact thoughts Peter intende4 174 hether man should be mortal or immortal— God left it to man to choose for himself. He placed be-fore him two trees, the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of goed and evil. Of the former, man might eat and live forever, that k, become immortal. To eat of the latter was to choose mortality, that is, to leave this veorld through temporal death. Adam and his wife chose to eat the forbidden fruit, and thereby chose mortality for themselves and their posterity. Hence we read: " By man came death."— T Col- 15: 21. Had man never sinned, God would doubt-less have transported him to heaven, without his having to pass through the ordeal of temporal death. 2. Yes, Jesus took upon him real flesh and bone at his resurrection. This he plainly states to his disciples when he appeared to them in their little prayer- meeting On the evening of the resurrection day. His words are : " Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."— Luke 24: 39. This body of flesh and bones had been immortalized in his resur-rection, and is thesame that ascended into heaven. 3. Yes. We read of the resur-rection of the widow's son by the prophet Elijah that, " The soul of the child came into him again, and he revived."— i Kings 17: 22. This is a description of the resurrection of all the dead at the last trump. The bodies will be rc surrected to immortality, and the souls will come into them again, and both souls and bodies together will enter their etc rnal destiny. W. G. S. Some Excuses. WIME passes and health fails, laL. pleasures lose their charms, earthly ambition bursts like bubbles, wealth takes wings, friends forsake, loved ones are laid in the grave, death is at the door, or some other kindred calamity threatens; and then the heart, harrassed by sorrow, is ready to receive that deliverance which, if accepted at first, would have saved untold bitterness. Sorrow, sickness, bereavements, and like judgments, are the only agencies that will awaken some from the sleep in sin. Let such influences come rather than that precious souls should be lost forever. " I am afraid of falling if I start." To listen to such an excuse would be as foolish as for one who has fallen in the mud to always lie there for fear of falling. " I fear I am too wicked." The one why makes this plea is like the man who won't drink any because he is thirsty, or eat because he is hungry. The Sax ior says that he came to save the lost. " A good moral life is sufficient." All who reason thus are like children who claim that their duty ends in being kind and honest to each other, without love and obedience to parents. " It is so hard to break from sinful companions." How much harder it will be to go on with them to eternal ruin! Cs gs fly a of in c-he of ch n- S. S. cc x- - d 31 2 " Where shall we look for help in affliction? Or whither shall we send? Of course, it takes a close walk with God in order to trust him for all things, and God will have a tried people; but he says he will not suf-fer us to be tempted beyond that we are able to bear. The enemy will suggest many things contrary to the Word, when we are being tried on the line of faith; but we will hear a still small voice saying behind us, " This is the way, walk ye in it." Is any among you afflicted? let him pray."— James 5: 13. If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you." Oh, how our hearts burn within us many times to see some that are teaching, lowering the standard of God's word to their own experience, thereby drawing disciples after them. Dear ones, this ought not so to be. You will admit with me that God is a just God. And do you think pos-sibly that God would lay down rules in his word for his children to observe and then not give them the grace and faith to obey? Nay, verily, whatsoever we ask we shall receive, because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing- in his sight. . Some will say, " We will take herbs in affliction but when we get sick we will call for the elders" ( many times expecting the elders to supply all the faith); but, dear ones; be careful that you are News from the Field. Should any one in northwestern Oregon, or southwestern Washington desire me to visit and hold meeting with you, I will do all I can to do so. I humbly ask an interest in the pray-ers of all saints that I make all need-ed advancement in my soul and the ministry of the Word. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: May the rich blessings of God's grace be in your hearts continually. I am saved and kept each day by the power of God, free from all sin. My name is written above; my feet are on the solid rock Christ Jesus; and my per-fect trust is in the Lord, and he does keep me. God has been so _ good to me. He has been with me through many trying times, but I think of the trials and what the dear Savior had to bear. The light trials we may have in this world will never be equal to the trials and sufferings of Christ who died - for us. Praise the Lord forever! The dear Lord let me get home, where I met with my dear folks and with dear Bro. and Sister Smith- After the Clayton C. M. Bro. Newkirk's came to that place; then they were going to start to Michigan C. M. I felt it would be to the glory of God for me to go with them; then the Lord did open the way for me. The Lord is wonderfully blessing us as we have meetings at different places. On the way through we stopped quite a while at Arkansas City. There we had a real precious time. Some dear souls that had gotten away from the Lord were renewed in the Lord again, and the seed was sown to bring forth fruit in the near future. From there we came to Atlanta; there we had a very precious meeting with the saints. Dear souls that had once known the love of God had lost all the spirit of God, but were restored back to the Lord with real - glory in their souls. From there we came to Western Park, Kan. Were there but a few days; then we came to Bushong, Kan. Here we met Bro. and Sister Hunter, and truly it was a precious meeting. We have NODAWAY, MO. DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST: I can truly testify to God's saving, keeping and healing power. I am • still enjoying this blessed salvation which enables us to live pure and holy in this present life, and keeps us trusting the dear Lord for all things. How glad I am that I was brought out of sin and confusion into this glorious light, where we know we have a true friend in him at all times, and can serve him in the beauty of holiness. He has been our family physician ever since we were saved, which was eighteen months ago. We have a large family and used doctors and medicine a great: deal before, but, praise his name, we don't need it any more. DEAR TRUMPE, T READE RS: I wili by the grace of God make my first attempt to address you through the GOSPEL TRUMPET. I am saved and sanctified, and I _ praise the Lord for it. The Lord converted me when I was fourteen years of age, and a little over two Years ago he sanctified me. I thank the Lord that to- day finds me still saved and sanctified. And I feel that I could not praise him enough for what he has done for me. And I am willing to take him as my physician. I think it is such a grand privilege that we have of getting to hear from the dear saints all over the United States through the TRUMPET. The last of this week we are looking lot a brother from Washington, Iowa, to come and hold meetings in this part of the country. We are praying that he may come filled with the Spirit of God. We ask the people to pray that we may have a refresh! ing time and many souls may be born into God's kingdorh. The Lord remember you all, is my prayer. In this meet-ing the Lord wonderfully manifested himself in healing power, insomuch that in one healing service which was held publicly, sinners were melt-ed to tears. We are now holding: meeting a-bout three miles from here at a place called Truittsburg. Although not many have been saved, God is send-ing forth his truth and many are convinced of the truth. This meeting thus far has been a hand to hand fight between truth and error, and truth is conquering. Hallelujah! We humbly ask your prayers in behalf of this meeting especially. Yours for the truth, A. T. ROWE AND ZELDA HAZLETT. GUYS MILLS, PA., Mar. 22. DEAR SAINTS: We are praising God for salvation. The meeting in the Bethel neighborhood closed Mar. 16 with good success. It lasted over four weeks. There were thirty con-secrations in all, and a few cases of healing. The dear Lord was with us in power. Praise his holy name! The little ones are talking strong of building a house to worship in, and we feel that in the near future God will have a strong church in that place. There was one man, an infidel, who was moved upon to come to the meeting; and confessed that he now believed that there is some-thing in salvation, stating that he never had heard the Gospel preached. 1 hope and pray that he may get saved and prove to his infidel friends that there is a God, and unless a man is saved by his power he is eternally lost. The dear Lord wonder- Lily helped us in sending forth the truth, for which we give him all the glory. We are home for a few days. Our next field of labor will be Utica and Dempseytown. - We expect to hold meeting in the Baptist meeting-house in the latter place, the Lord willing. Dear children of God, hold us up by your prayers that God may continue to bless us and our labors. Yours in the love of Jesus, E. J. AND W. G. BILLIG. CHICAGO, March 29, 1897. DEAR BRETHREN: We are glad to report a glorious ' victory for the Lord in Chicago. The meeting has been in progress here at the " Open Door Mission for ten days. The truth has gone forth to the people by the power of the Holy Spirit and many hungry souls have feasted up-on the truths of the blessed word which had been hidden from them. Bros. Schell, Keeling, Haynes, Palmer, and a number of others of God's ministers were present to deliver the word of God in all its purity. Sinners were saved from their sins, believers sanctified, and many sick were heal-ed by the power of God in answer to-prayer. We were pleased to see the prog-ress of the work of the Lord here through the instrumentality of Bro. Tufts and coworkers. The mission building is a six- story building with basement, which costs $ 2400 a year rent. The Mission room occupies all of first floor; in which the meetings are held. The people who attended were provided with beds and board free of charge, add all things were common. The second floor is fitted up for office rooms, etc. Third and fourth for sleeping apartments for homeless men. The rooms being 125 feet long, many weary wandering men will find a resting- place away from the awful influence of the dives, gambling dens, and wickedness of the slums of the city, and also have the privilege of obtaining something to eat and hearing the word of God taught pointing them to the way of eternal life. The fifth floor is the dining- room, where the hungry are fed. The sixth floor is where the Gospel workers live, and here is also a large sitting- room in which some precious divine healing services and early morning meetings were held. The way is now wonderfully open-ing for the pure word to go forth in Chicago as never before. Calls are coming from missions in many places for some of the true ministers of God to come and preach the pure Gospel to them. A number of meetings were held each night during the the assembly with good results. Some of the ministers will remain and aid in continuing the work. To- day was to have been the last day of the meet-ing, but it will now continue as the Lord may direct. We have just closed a precious ordinance service, which a large number of saints were present to enjoy. This was followed by an evening service in which many souls came seeking salvation and found the Lord precious to their souls. Let a united prayer go up in behalf of the work in this city. Your saved sister, kept by the power of God, MATTIE GILLEY. UPPERVILLE, VA. DEAR SAINTS AND TRUMPET READ-ERS: With a lowly heart at the feet of Jesus I write a few words of testimony in praise and honor of my dear Redeemer, and tell of his goodness and mercy to me. The people here teach that there can be no saints of to- day, neither can one be sanctified in this world or before they come to death's door; but, praise God, 1 learned a better lesson than that ten years ago. In 1886 I made a consecration to God as best I could, laying all on the altar, believing that it was all acceptable with the Lord. He has saved me from the habit of snuff- using, which I have tried to quit, but. all to no avail. But, bless his holy name, he took the habit in a moment and the desire went with it. Oh, he is so good to us when we are obedient to his word and trust in him. I trust him for my body as well as my soul, and I hope you will all pray for me, espec: ally that my faith be made strong in the Lord for the healing of my body. I have been living in all the light I had. I did not have the light on sectisin until about two years ago when I began to read the GOSPEL TRUMPET; then I began to see that it was wrong for the divi: ions in the church. I find in God's word that his church is the only one on the firm foundation, and that there should be no divisions in his body. I wrote a letter to the so- called Bap-tist church to exalude me from their bock, as my name was written in the Lamb's book I realize that God is my father and I am his child, pardoned of all my sins and washed in the blood of my Savior, and I have the abiding Comforter in my soul. S we read and reread, search and research the word of God, we find hidden treasures and soul food each time. And as we meditate and ponder in our hearts and minds the great promises of God given to those that obey and love him, we are made to exclaim, 0 thou God of all that is good and perfect, bow great is thy love to poor fallen man; kind, that they, too, can be restored to the perfect image of Him who gave his blood for the cleansing of ail sin! 0 how wonderful! How amazing the grace of God, that reaches down to the lowest and vilest of sinners, and exalts them to the highest sta-tion attainable in this life; viz., sons oi God and heirs with Christ. You, be-loved, do you really and surely know for yourself that the blood does actually cleanse you from sin right now? If not. why not? The price has been paid, the antidote for sin is in the reach of all, the invitation- " Corne'unto me, all ye that labor and areleavy laden, and I [ the Son of God] will give you rest."— Matt. i r: 28. What more could he say? What more could he do? Again we hear the Son of God as he hangs on the cross, saying, " It is finished," nothing left undone; oh, praise the Lord! Do you want this soul rest? Then accept it. Do you want this cleansing? Then believe, and it is yours. The majority of professors in sectism are ridiculing those that be-lieve and preach holiness; but they— poor souls— do not stop and think, that with all their Leagues, Endeavor, and abominable socials, they are set-ting aside the blood of Christ. Oh, the multitude of unregenerated souls that are going to hell through the above institutions! " Without holiness no man shall see the Lord."— Heb. 12: 15. And without the blood of Christ no one can be made holy. r Jno. Though the Word and faith are necessary, yet the blood is the prime factor in sanctification. It is a. lamentable fact that heart purity is not preached and urged on as it should be. But it is glorious Divine Healing. Christian Science a Counterfeit of Divine Healing. By J. C. Myers. HRISTIAN Science, " falsely so-called," is the counterfeit of divine healing. In order that the counterfeit may be exposed, its false and dangerous teachings should not only be held up, but the true teach-ing- of God's word should be preach-ed. One of the most successful ways of exposing a counterfeit is to show up the true. God has provided, through Jesus Christ, for sickness as well as for sin, and God's people are reaching out fur this remedy; and for want of light, which shou, d be given by the ministers of the gospel through preaching all the truth of God's word, they are led into the count( rfeit, deceived, overthrown, and often, it is to be feared, ruined for time and eternity: and it is also to be feared that the blood of these deceived psople will be on the skirts of many of God's ministers for not holding up the true light. The true light is being held up by many, and people are being healed, and it should be htld up by all the ministers of the gospel, that all may have the benefits of gospel provi-sions, and be saved from the Devil's counterfeit. I awfully fear for such ministers professing to have the Holy Ghost, who not only fail to hold up the light, but who, instead of being set for the defense of the truth have set themselves against the truth. Jesus said, John 16: 13: " When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth." There is no plainer truth under the light of the Holy Ghost than divine healing for our bodies. If ministers and others have the Holy Ghost, why are they not led into this blessed truth? Answer be-fore God on your knees. It will be impossible, and it is not our purpose in this article to set forth this counterfeit of truth, com-ing in the slimy garb of Christianity (" Christian Science") as taught by this fiendish system, which had its origin and still has its support from the regions of darkness; but only to give at present a few of their false declarations, and raising the cry of warning, to " touch not, taste not, handle not the unclean thing," at the risk of your peril. Mrs. Eddy, who claims to be the first discoverer of this system, and the first to give it the name Chris-tian Science," has published several works on the subject, the leading one first published in 1875, and which 1.3 in its 49th edition, called " Science of Health." She denies absolutely that God is a person, in " Science of Health," page 377, she says: " God is mind. He is divine principle, not person." " God is soul, or spirit, and spirit bath no outline. Soul is neither a limited mind nor a limited body, therefore it cannot be a person." Her teaching further is, " that there is nothing in the universe but mind; that there is and can be only o. ne mind; that this universal mind is God; that there is no God separate from man, and that man has no per-sonality separate from God; that God is all, and everything that is, is God." " The belief that man has a sepa-rate life or soul from God is the er-ror that Jesus came to destroy. " Man is co- eternal and co- existent with God, and they are inseparable in divine science. Science decides matter or the mortal body to be nothing but a belief and an illusion. " The only realities are the Divine mind and its ideas." " This mind or divine principle can produce nothing unlike itself. Sin, sickness, and death are comprised in a belief in matter. Because spirit is real and harmonious, everything inharmon-ious— sin, sickness, deis. th— is the op-posite of spirit, and mist be the con-tradiction of reality, n tust be unreal." Page 14. Full Text | Blow ye the Tru ropet in Zion, sound an alarm in my holy mountain. - In the days of his reign, the prophet says, " Judah shall be saved" and " behold, Now is the day of salvation."- 2 Cor. " God t- itteth on the throne of his holiness" which is " like a fiery flame." and reigns in the hearts o f his people. Alone with Jesus! Oh. how sweet! Just to lie passive at his feet, And drink the crystal streams of life, That break the tide of doubt and strife. Alone with Jesus! When I weep, And long within his arms to sleep, How blest to hear him softly say, " Be not afraid; I am the way." Alone with Jesus! heavenly place! There fall the showers of his grace Upon my hungry, thirsting soul, To satisfy and make me whole. Alone with Jesus! on his breast, To find from care and trouble, rest: It fills my heart with joy, sweet joy, Which darkest hours can ne'er destroy. Alone with Jesus! ' neath his wing, To own him Lord and crown him King, And learn to love and serve him true, Until I sup with him anew. Thomas Nelson. We now come to the text we had in mind when beginning this article: " Examine yourselves, whether ye be Volume 17. Number 13. Dear saints, pray for me that the Lord will keep me very humble, and do all his will. Your saved brother, E. VOIGT. ELBING, KAN. DEAR READERS OF THE TRUMPET: I feel it would be to the glory of God for me to tell what he has done for me. He saves my soul and heals my body. The doctors had given me up and said I must die with con-sumption. One doctor said he had done all that man could do and another said that by careful nursing I might live a while. But, praise God, they did not know. Two months ago to- day I was anointed for healing, and, praise God, I re-cei- ved it. The pain ceased entirely and the cough is almost gone. B. R. This verse, which says, " Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of sins" is the great stronghold of water salvationists. " It is so hard to break from sinful companions." The enemy will suggest many things contrary to the Word, when we are being tried on the line of faith; but we will hear a still small voice saying behind us, " This is the way, walk ye in it." Is any among you afflicted? let him pray."— James 5: 13. Sister Horton was born Aug. 12, 1871; died Mar. 16, 1897; aged 25 yr. 7 mo. da. She endured her suffering with patience, and died in full assurance of faith. She left many tokens of love. But our loss is her eternal gain. She leaves a husband, one child, an aged mother, and brothers and sisters to mourn her departure. May her life be an example to them. Geo. Filhour. WARREN,— Anna M. Warren, wife of Thomas Warren, died Dec. 3, 1896; aged 50 yr. 2 mo. 21 da. Sister Warren was the mother of ten chil-dren. She lived with great anxiety to see her children saved. Two of her boys, William and Barney have been earnestly engaged in the gospel work. She had at various times called her children around her bedside and exhorted them to meet her in heaven. Again and again she would revive and pass through the fire of persecution by an unsaved husband. She finally closed her last days with her oldest daughter, Nellie, who has since given her heart to Jesus, and I pray God that all the unsaved ones may yet come to repent-ance and be saved. Sister Warren closed her life by saying" All is well." Her remains were deposited in the Old People's Home Cemetery at South Haven, Mich. S. Michels. DEAR BROTHER BYRUM: My daugh-ter Lydia has had her eye healed in answer to prayer. We sent to the TRUMPET OFFICE for prayer in her behalf on the 24th of January, and it has been getting strong ever since. We call this a miracle, for it has been sore and nearly blind for fifteen years. To God be all the glory. MRS. ELIZA A. COLE. Testimonies. LEWISBURG, OREGON. DEAR TRUMPET READERS: I feel it to be to the glory of God for me to tell you of the wonderful goodness of G • d to me in the healing of my body as well as my soul. He has healed me perfectly of heart disease of long standing. I had become so bad that I had almost a continual pain through my heart and some-times my sufferings were intense, and I would be almost prostrated for days. Before I was saved I re-sorted to earthly physicians, but only with temporary relief and very little hope of ever being better. My memory also, had become badly im-paired through the direct effects of this disease. But I do praise God I found perfect deliverance through faith in Jesus' dear precious name. I write these lines in hope that others who are afflicted may take courage to trust the Lord completely. Just: simply take him at his word. Pray for me, dear children of God, that I may ever he hid away with Christ in God. Your sister, saved and under the precious blood, MARY A. LIVINGSTON. Healed of Heart Disease. WYLIE, MINN. DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: I do praise God for a present salvation that keeps me seven days in a week; a salvation that takes God at his word under all circumstances. I praise him for ever bringing me out of darkness into this blessed evening light, and helping me to discern the real church, which is the body of Christ. The dear Lord has saved me from tea, coffee, and tobacco, for which I give him all the glory. He is also our family physician, and he never fails us, if we do not have a penny. He healed me last summer of a severe attack of fever. I de-sire the prayers of all the saints. YOUT brother, CHAS. MELTON. Again we hear the Son of God as he hangs on the cross, saying, " It is finished" nothing left undone; oh, praise the Lord! By J. C. Myers. HRISTIAN Science, " falsely so-called" is the counterfeit of divine healing. It will be impossible, and it is not our purpose in this article to set forth this counterfeit of truth, com-ing in the slimy garb of Christianity (" Christian Science") as taught by this fiendish system, which had its origin and still has its support from the regions of darkness; but only to give at present a few of their false declarations, and raising the cry of warning, to " touch not, taste not, handle not the unclean thing" at the risk of your peril. Mrs. Eddy, who claims to be the first discoverer of this system, and the first to give it the name Chris-tian Science" has published several works on the subject, the leading one first published in 1875, and which 1.3 in its 49th edition, called " Science of Health." She denies absolutely that God is a person, in " Science of Health" page 377, she says: " God is mind.
