After two years of searching for a big-name band to come to DePauw, Union Board finally secured a deal with Dave Matthews to come to campus on -Feb. 21. Kresge Auditorium will be the last stop for Matthews and Tim Reynolds on their acoustic tour of colleges and universities. Tickets will cost students $20 each and will go on sale Feb. 6, three days before they are offered to the public. The result oflast night's ratification of the amendment will. for all intents and purposes, act as a new ronstitution. Student Body PI esident, senior . .. Ryan Danks, said before debate began that the GEC, "started over with student government at DePauw." The significant changes of GEe's report include a change in the representation of Student Congress, the creation of an Executive Vice PIesident position and the addition of two committees to Congress that deal with organizations and first-year students. The most debated change of the amendment dealt with the issue of representation. According to Article VI, section 2, "All recognized student organizations of DePauw University sha)) elect one voting representative to SEE CONGRESS PAGE 4 Racism said to mar Putnam byJ.K Wall Recent word of racism in Indiana's prison system caused DePauw students to protest in Indianapolis last Friday. But at the Putnamville Correctional Facility, there's a 10-year pattern of racism without repercussions. Reports of racism show a pattern of intimidation, violence, harassment, retaliation and favoritism within the Putnamville facility, which is known as the State Farm. These reports stem from Indiana Department of Corrections documents and accounts from people with intimate knowledge of' Putnamville. These reports consist pf numerous complaints by prison officers and inmates. The complaints, charged almost daily, are incidents -SPORTS • e prIson of racial, ethnic and sexual insults. There are allegations of officers assaulting inmates and retaliating against those who complain or oppose these acts. The reported racism is allegedly connected with a white supremacy - group called the "Brotherhood." According to some State Farm employees, certain employees and ~ates make up this group and are known by a common tattoo that says simply, "Brotherhood.· But a 1995 FBI investigation didn't find evidence to substantiate the existence of such a group. However, certain officers were commonly actused of wrongdoing.
