Along with its bi-yearly blood drive, DePauw's Union Board is sponsoring a National Marrow Donor Registry enrollment drive in Freeman's name today from 1-5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1-6 p.m. in the Union Building B llroom. Freeman, who is currently staying on a floor with other patients who await bone marrow donor , worked with several DePauw Community Scrvice volunteers in her first grade classroom. "Therrian always a¢Cepted DePauw students into her classroom for the Bonner Scholar and Student Friend programs," said Joy Marley, a friend of Freeman's and another first grade teacher at Ridpath. Bonner Scholar Yanina Nevarez worked in Freeman's classroom for two years. "I am sad that this is happening," Nevarez said. The wife of former U.S. President George Bush will speak in Kresge Auditorium at 10 a.m., said John D. Hughes University Bush: Cornk1g Professor Ken Bode. to c:ampuI She will answer que - tions from students immediately afterward in the Wat on Forum. Mrs. Bush will come to DePauw as part of the Ubben Lecture Series, which will also feature astronaut James Lovell Nov. 30. Bush will arrive March 19, and have dinner at University President Robert Bottom ' house that night. Mrs. Bu h married George Bush in 1945. They have had four sons and two daughters. George W. Bu h was elected Governor of Texas, and Jeb Bush ran un ucce fully as the Republican nominee for Governor of Florida last November. Mr . Bush was first lady from 1989-93. Durin her time in the White House, she was an advocate for literacy in America. She helped develop the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Uteracy, of which she is honorary chairperson. She is al a member of the board of the Mayo Clinic Foundation. Mrs. Bush has wrillen three books: "Barbara Bush: A Memoi r," "Millie's Book" and "C. Fred ' Story." Eating disorder counselor increases time on campus by Carolille Jeffi Holly Hubbard remembers what it i like to be in college. Mo tly, she remembers the pressures. "There is so much pressure to be skinny," Hubbard id. "So much pressure to be a perfect beauty queen." As DePauw's new eating di order counselor, Hubbard returns to the campus scene to help people who are feeling these pressures. Hubbard began visiting DePauw once a week to counsel students. She has found, though, that the demand is so great that an additional day is needed. Now Hubbard visits campus both Wedne days and Thursdays. "I'm getting new patients all the time," said Hubbard. "The general response is that this type of program is way overdue." Hubbard said she is now counseling up to eleven students. She also sees students who want to talk about other with su - peeted problems. Hubbard also allows students to bring a friend with them to the session. She said this can help to break the tension. Hubbard finds that many tudents are nervous about the subject of eating disorders. That is why she started the idea of ou treach. Outreach consists of Hubbard speaking in public or private arena about the problem of eating disorders. Hubbard said, "A lot of women probably wouldn't come in on their own." She hope that these women will be persuaded by her talks to recognize their problem and seek help. pIloto bY Mike Spivey Counselor Holly Hubbard Is on campus twice a week to talk to students about eating disorders. Hubbard originally worked through Koala Hospital in Indianapolis where she formed Koala Outreach for Eating Disorders (KO-ED). Because of the demand for these kind of services, though, Hubbard has decided to work independently of the hospital. She would like to concentrate on college campuses.
